Virgin America’s New App: “An Impressively Simple Experience”

August 2, 2016

Virgin America’s New App - Simple Experience

Whether it’s touch-screen entertainment, personal power outlets, or WiFi on every flight, Virgin America is known for giving its guests a tech-forward travel experience. With the release of its new mobile app – developed and designed by Work & Co – the airline’s taking that experience to new heights.

Luanne Calvert, chief marketing officer at Virgin America, said: “We were focused equally on utility and beautiful design throughout the development of the product. We wanted to make an app that was worthy of our guests.”

The app delivers one of the fastest booking experiences: find and book a flight in less than 60 seconds.

Virgin’s new app is one of the few totally native apps for iOS and Android, and the fact that Work & Co took no shortcuts in development shows in the user experience. Here is what top media outlets are saying:

Fast Company

“With its new app by the digital product design firm Work & Co, Virgin America aims to make booking and managing your flights as easy as it would be with a travel agent.”

Engadget

“There’s a lot more playful illustration than you’ve seen in other airline apps, consistent with the approach Virgin takes to air travel.”

The Next Web

“Book flights in 60 seconds or less. In your profile, you can select preferences such as aisle or window seat and cabin class to expedite the booking process. Your e-ticket information can all be stored within the app to get you right past the check-in line.”

MacWorld

“In addition to helping you book a flight, check in, and rock out at 35,000 feet, the new Virgin America app sends you real-time notifications about your flight status and personalized deals based on your favorite travel destinations.”

Travel + Leisure

“The app features an impressively simple experience for booking, managing, and checking in to flights.”

CN Traveler

“Book a flight in less than a minute, check in (and upgrade) with a fingertip, and conjure up dedicated Spotify playlists curated for each destination. Long gone are the days when apps served as hollow portals for the airlines’ websites.”

You can sign up to take a test flight of the app in beta, with a public launch later this summer. Sign up for the beta today.
