Reset a template

You can undo all customizations you made to a template, resetting the template to the default settings. This guide will show you how to reset a template.

Reset a template

You can revert a template to the theme’s default settings. This will remove all customizations and cannot be undone.

To undo all the edits and customizations and restore a template to its default state, follow these steps:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Appearance → Editor.
  3. Click on the Templates option on the left sidebar to display all the templates on your site.
  4. If a template has been customized, clicking on the three dots at the bottom right of any template will reveal the “Reset” option:

  1. Select the “Reset” option, and click on the button labeled “Reset” on the confirmation box.
  2. The changes will immediately be reverted to the default layout. This change cannot be undone.

Reset all templates

You can reset the customizations on all the templates you’ve modified by using the “Bulk edit” option. Resetting all templates will restore them to the theme’s default. This change cannot be undone.

To reset all templates:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Appearance → Editor.
  3. Click on the Templates option on the left sidebar to display all the templates on your site.
  4. Click the checkbox at the bottom of the screen to select all customized templates.

  1. Click the icon of a clock with a reverse arrow around it that appears after you’ve clicked the checkbox.
  2. Click the Reset button on the confirmation screen.

If the Reset option cannot be selected, you have no customizations to reset.

Quick reset from Editor Command Palette

You can also reset a template using the Editor Command Palette by following these steps:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Appearance → Editor.
  3. Click on the Templates option on the left sidebar to display all the templates on your site.
  4. Click on the name of the template, then click on the editing area on the right to open up the editor interface.
  5. On your keyboard, press Cmd+k on Mac or Ctrl+k on Windows to open the Command Palette.
    • Alternatively, you can click the template title to open the Command Palette.
  6. Type “reset” in the search field. If “Reset template” doesn’t appear, there are no changes to reset.
  7. Select the “Reset template” option.
  8. Click the Save button in the top-right of the editor to save your changes.
