(WJW) – Former Ohio Republican Party Chair Jane Timken has been appointed as State Senator for the 29th district.
The district covers the Canton area and most of Stark County.
The appointment will cover the remainder of late Senator Kirk Shuring’s term.
Shuring served the area for more than 30 years.
“Jane has big shoes to fill replacing the legendary Kirk Schuring, but I have no doubt that she will be a fantastic senator for the 29th District,” said Senate President Rob McColley in a press release. “Jane Timken is a proven conservative who brings a unique skill set of economic development, public policy and politics to the Senate. I’m confident she will be an outstanding advocate for all Ohioans.”
Timken is also a lawyer and ran unsuccessfully for Ohio Senate in the race, which was ultimately won by now-vice president JD Vance.
“I’m incredibly honored to represent Stark County and the 29th District, and to follow in the footsteps and legacy of accomplishments left by my good friend Kirk Schuring,” said Timken in a release.
Schuring died of cancer in November.
Timken is expected to be elected to the position by the Republican members of the Ohio Senate at its next session on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
