I’ve audited over 1,000 websites to help with their SEO. This includes multi-billion dollar brands, SaaS companies you might know (Ahrefs, ConvertKit, Kinsta), large affiliate sites and everything in between. Here are some of the most common problems I find 👇

The Detailed newsletter is weird in that there are four pre-written emails (which I genuinely update every few weeks) and then I'll only email in-depth reports after that — one per month, max. I tried to make sure those first four emails are special. detailed.com

In the ~2 months since I published this: - Ziff Davis acquired Lifehacker - Sports Illustrated (Arena) launched Esports Illustrated - Vox Media launched a new online golf brand - Arena Group partnered with 4 new sports sites (~6m monthly uniques) And that's just part of it.

I feel like Semrush $SEMR earnings calls will be a good barometer to see how AI is impacting SEO going forward. Yesterday's call: Q1 rev: $70.9M (up 24% YoY ⬆) Operating expenses: $69M (⬇ 4.3%) ARR: $293M (⬆ 23%) Q1 Net loss: $9.9M, up from $2.6M last year They are not yet…

Every month I track the search traffic of 2,000+ purposefully selected websites. Just running the numbers for independent review sites. Clear winner MoM (and +200% YoY) is a pretty terrible site built on a really strong expired domain. Won't surprise many but still works well.

Just to clarify, I got permission to share this. I had promised to tweet it before most of the replies came in on the thread. They got some great responses. Just genuinely curious if people know of other agencies that do this. Seems...illegal.

A UK SEO agency is demanding website logins from a Blueprint member so they can remove the work they've done after they wanted to cancel. They were paying monthly. No performance targets or annual contract or similar. 17 years in SEO and never heard of this. Anyone else?

Love approving comments like this inside SEO Blueprint (doors closed, so not trying to pitch you). Nothing advanced to this one. Sometimes you just need to double-check the basics. If you're a member you'll see Colin on the 'All Comments' page. Sidebar link on every video.

You may know I created the Detailed SEO Extension (120K+ users) but may not know I have another extension I use daily. It removes breadcrumbs from Google search results to reveal actual URLs. Great for site: searches and finding pages you probably don't want G crawling.

Been doing this for a few years now but shoutout to for the idea to put them all into one large filter. And who showed up in my timeline today with this.

Does anyone know how I could accurately block every single email that asks for paid backlinks, link exchanges, link insertions, especially if sent from a gmail or weak domain? 🤓

I receive ~150 guest post / paid link requests every month...but only one or two land in my inbox. How? A simple Gmail filter you can copy and paste, that labels all matching emails and they skip the inbox. Settings > Filters > Add New > Paste from detailed .com/guestpost.txt

The last few months my traffic and newsletter growth at Detailed.com has broken previous records. Unfortunately, negative feedback has increased with it. Apparently a 13K word guide on the companies dominating Google is "way too long". Today I announce my rebrand.

This is a semi-promotional tweet but in three years of running SEO Blueprint, this is the biggest waiting list response we've ever had in well over 1,500 replies. A few people concerned about AI, sure, but lots of people all-in. I'm biased but bullish. seoblueprint.com

From April 10th, DPReview .com will become a read-only website with no further updates. The photography site currently reaches around 1.5M people each month from search. Good news for their competitors but seems like a lazy decision by their owners (Amazon). h/t

Four years ago I tweeted that making the homepage of Techmeme was one of my life goals. I've read the site daily for a decade now (they're also said to be the first site Mark Zuckerberg reads each day). Today that goal became a reality. HUGE thank you for all the shares 🙏🏻

Tomorrow I go live with an updated report on the 16 companies dominating Google. Easily the biggest article of my life (12,000+ words) but I promise it's super skimmable. Trying to live up to when I was cool enough to be mentioned in books. Really hope you find it valuable 😬

#7 MBP: A UK-focused marketplace for people to buy, sell & trade used video equipment. mpb.com Seems like a niche version of eBay that’s super clean and trustworthy. Claims more than 250K users and that 2,700+ pieces of kit added in the last week alone.

Heads up: There are a lot of companies I can highlight but I want to be respectful to the FT, so I'm only mentioning eight I found interesting. Link at the end will provide specific numbers, but you should assume all I share are doing millions in *revenue* and growing fast 📈

7 years ago I wrote this article and it easily became the most popular thing I've ever published. Honestly amazed to see it still gets shared here on Twitter a few times each month. In 7 days I'm going live with a completely revamped version for 2023. It's...different.

Picked out the kids' outfits today. Followed one team my whole life and today I might finally get to see them win something. If you're a neutral or don't care about football, I invite you to be a fellow Geordie today. 🖤🤍 #nufc #CarabaoCupFinal

When this is finished rolling out I'll compare it to the 10,000 keyphrases we just analysed and share any major changes (will always be minor fluctuations). Expect it to be a Twitter thread so no newsletter pitch. Super curious about changes to the top 100 overall domains

In my recent affiliate search results deep-dive, I shared that IAC's DotdashMeredith owned more sites in the top 100 overall domains than anyone else (16). Three days ago they were asked on an earnings call how they felt about AI affecting SEO. Here was the reply.
