AFI’s DWW program mentors filmmakers through the production cycle of a short film, providing hands-on instruction led by industry experts. Since the program’s launch in 1974, DWW has trained over 350 filmmakers that strive to give voice to historically underrepresented perspectives.

As you know, we had hoped to open applications for the AFI Directing Workshop in October. Unfortunately, the ongoing uncertainties of the COVID-19 Delta variant continue to impact production as it relates to the safety protocols mandated by state and federal authorities. And because AFI’s commitment – always – will be to the health and safety of the AFI Community, we’ve made the decision to postpone the DWW application process for an additional year.

While we share your disappointment, we are at the same time inspired by the resilience our community has shown during these challenging times and greatly look forward to resuming the program in Fall 2022.
