Critic Reviews for The Conners Season 3
All Critics (7) | Top Critics (3) | Fresh (7) | Rotten (0)
TV comedies, especially good ones like "black-ish" and "The Conners," know when they have to "pivot," but especially know when to arrive back at the same place where all sitcoms eventually end up: In the warm, swaddling embrace of family.
The Conners is much more like the original Roseanne than the revival in spirit, in that the series interacts with hot button issues like race, class, gender identity and sexual orientation with empathy and realism.
"The Conners" can come off as ham-fisted when leveraging topical themes for its family dramedy... This time, though, the situations in ABC's flagship family sitcoms hit especially close to home.
This should hopefully provide a pretty rich setup for the rest of the season.
The Conner family has always been able to find the humor in struggling to get by, but the stakes have never seemed higher, and it's difficult to laugh at their all-too-real desperation.
Other than Superstore, no scripted show that takes place outside of a hospital is better suited to dramatize the anxiety, uncertainty, and absurdity of the pandemic.
What this [premiere] lacks in humor it more than makes up for it in heart. After all, the Conner family has always been America's look into the realities of the working-class family.

5d agoThere are far to many people trashing this because they miss Roseanne and are angry they lost their favorite racist. But, setting aside their anger, this show is fresh with strong comedy and overall acting.

Mar 03, 2021I like the reboot a lot. Almost as much as the original.

Feb 05, 2021not the same without Rosanne but it's okay.

Jan 21, 2021I just started watching this season and it really is just what I needed. While I watched Roseanne when I was a kid (and apparently didn't know I had a crush on Darlene...), as an adult I really wasn't much of a fan of Roseanne herself, real life nor character. Not having Barr on the show is what made me decide to watch it, and I'm glad I did. Although I know this is a throwback, I had a little trouble with the "middle class" label. I feel like they could have gone a little less slummy; perhaps just a little lift to the house. I mean it is 30 years later, just at least get rid of the wallpaper, and a few home improvements— but of course, keep the couch! This is a personal issue I'll admit, it's just that I have a hard time being "in their house." Other than the portrayal of slightly less than middle class, the characters are extremely relatable and I would love to spend a day with them... with a slightly cleaner, less cluttered house. BTW Sara if you're still single, look me up. It all makes sense now why I had a crush on you....

Jan 20, 2021This show has gone down hill and off a cliff.

Dec 10, 2020The critics must be out of their mind. This show sucks.

Nov 25, 2020I'm still very impressed with the shows ability to keep me interested even after losing Roseanne. I've realized that I invested myself into the entire cast of characters thru over 30 years of viewing and I'm still eager to see how their lives play out. I miss Roseanne. But this is really good TV for those willing to give it a shot without her. Too many people are judging the show poorly based on the fact that Roseanne is gone. They need to watch it before they rate it!

Nov 25, 2020This show tanked when they got rid of its driving force, Roseanne.
-
Nov 16, 2020One of the few american sitcoms dealing with the realities of working class families. Thought-provoking and funny, with a great cast.
-
Nov 08, 2020Lowest ratings yet. They should not have removed Roseanne.
