Critic Consensus: The Flash's fifth season maintains the show's high standard for compelling visuals, chilling villains, and well-scripted moments of humor, but also turns a more focused gaze on the role of family dynamics amongst the increasingly complex characters.

"Legacy" worked about as well as could be hoped.
The Flash ended Season 5 with its own deluge of devastating family drama, followed by a "Crisis on Infinite Earths" tease of its own.
It was a little rocky with that Cicada business, but the season closes out strong with plenty of stakes and enough hope to pull you forward.
The Flash has returned in good form. [Full Review in Spanish]
The Flash mostly offers some much-needed, good, old-fashioned escapism.
Luckily, characters like Cisco (even drunk Cisco) and Ralph "many-verse" Dibny can turn even the most uneventful episodes into something funny and memorable, and Nora's energetic, bubbly energy seems like it could do the same.
Ralph actually does something right.
The Flash manages to recapture its glory days with a phenomenal and totally schway fifth season premiere.
Audience Reviews for The Flash: Season 5
As a huge Flash fan, It's disappointing that this show doesn't capture my interest anymore. There are many plot holes, especially in Season 5 of the Flash. The villain was not interesting, not even slightly. With only a handful of episodes left, the main villain is killed, and then were introduced to two other villains. The show is all over the place. Candice Patton's acting has increased greatly over this season. We see a lot of emotional scenes, where her acting shines. Going from Season 1, to this Season, it feels as if some on the acting has decreased on the show. Especially in Grant Gustin. In season 1, such enthusiasm to be the Flash, and great emotional scenes where you can feel his pain/emotion. In this season, he falls short of having a connection with the audience.
Flash season 5 was an exciting one with plot twists, gripping story and development for all the characters, epic fight scenes and a balance between humour and drama. It had so many parallels with past episodes while bringing back old tech, characters and providing answers to many questions. However, Barry was sidelined by Nora and sometimes team flash acted in an unintelligent way by letting Cicada fly away. Overall, though, it was an enjoyable setup to Crisis.
Nora West Allen (Excess) is the most annoying, whiny, and selfish character, the show has ever produced, and she's is a good guy! The only thing that saves this season at all is Reverse Flash. Having both the children would have been great, but it's no surprise they chose this one gender.
I never thought I would miss the days of season 3. Season 5 was a garbage fire. The costume looked god awful, the Godspeed episode was a joke, Cicada was a horrible villain and Nora was the most annoying character thus far.
The 5th season of the fastest man alive goes back to familiar territory with some new developments to spice things up after the defeat of Devoe, the return of Dibney, and ending his Enlightenment Cecile had her baby, Jenna and Barry got some unexpected help from another speedster 30 years from now XS was the fastest woman alive, turns out she's also Barry and Iris' daughter, Nora she's come back to the past to fix a big mistake and stuck with not enough power to open the Speed Force could it be dangerous though? could the timeline be altered disastrously? will Nora ever get home? for now she stays with our heroes to feel less guilty about the mistake she made and trying to prove her worth to Barry the news gets more sad when it's revealed that Barry goes missing again in 2049 and never returns, once more this feels like a throwback to previous seasons which is always a nice touch in the meantime Caitlin wants to get Killer Frost back and she found out she's been with her since childhood; she even wants to track down her father who it turns out had a fake death certificate But how many secrets has he kept? Is he the same man? a new Wells whom is a detective is brought in to help take down Cicada; during the course of the season he finds romance Cisco begins working on a life-changing cure for all metas but is it morally the right thing to do? new metas show up from Gridlock to a woman who can squeeze things down to size to Spin who can control tech to Rag Doll who can alter his body's shape to Weather Witch to Silver Ghost to Godspeed to this season's ultimate menace, Cicada who wants all metas to die and absorb their abilities and Nora claims he can't be caught, there's more though as it turns out he has a sick niece from a loss in his family and we see why he holds a grudge against Flash and other metas she could possibly be the key the show at this point also reaches its 100th episode making it such a milestone for fans and the creators, sadly it also means Barry has to travel back in time once more and face every horror he's ever experienced from Thawne, Zoom, and Savitar Nora it turns out gets info from an unexpected source in the future which could mean the death of another family member, she's also hiding something very crucial from her loved ones that could make or break everything As the finale approaches the threat of Cicada increases as someone even more deadly takes the mantle and the return of a very familiar foe with so many secrets being kept can Barry and Iris still be nsync with one another? are Barry's decisions more based on his emotions than compromise and understanding? the final scene creates a brand new chapter for the fastest man alive for Season 6 but will it be better or end up being more dyer? plus the next crossover digs into what happens on Earth-90; an Elseworld story takes places shifting all of our heroes in different realities and introducing Batwoman in Gotham City for the very first time! Dr John Deigen gets help from the Monitor using a magical book to reshape reality the writers even hearken back to Smallville, too bringing in Lois Lane at last but by a new actress sometimes the most impressive feat is restraint, greatness isn't inherited, you rush into fixing a mistake you'll make it worse, some people publish the news just to get famous, parents are supposed to make things better not worse, if we dont believe in people who will, we'll do anything to protect our families even lie, you can't deduce love like its a mystery, sometimes we fail because we worry so much about not failing in the first place, the problem keeping secrets from your loved ones is that it affects their decisions, you shouldn't stop trying to to avoid danger and just help face it, sometimes all you can do is live with the consequences this is definitely one of my favorite seasons of one generation colliding with another and learning from one another The use of family dynamics is also used considerably as well 'Flash' is still going very strong and very fast thank god
The flash is such an amazing show, and season 5, having reverse flash back is nostalgic.
The Flash is keeping to it's good form. Is it perfect... no. Is it entertaining, and even emotional at times... hell yes!
Season 5 struggles to find its feet with a really bad villain in the form of Cicada, whom clearly cannot carry an entire season and should have been something like a six episode arc.
everything about this show is bad. I've watched the first 3 seasons and just couldn't watch the 4th until the end because it was so stupid... don't waste your time watching another CW show, it's awful
