Disney Pushes ‘Avatar’ Sequels Release Dates as Much as 2 Years

James Cameron’s 2009 film grossed $2.8 billion at the box office worldwide

Now that Disney is captaining the ship that delivered the “Avatar” franchise, the studio is pushing the release dates to the multi billion-dollar franchise sequels by as much as two years.

Disney said on Tuesday that the untitled “Avatar 2” has been pushed a year to December 2021, from its previous December 2020 date, while the third film will be delayed two years to December 2023, the fourth is pushed from December 2024 to December 2025 and the fifth film is expected to be released in December 2027.

James Cameron’s 2009 film broke box office records, grossing $2.8 billion worldwide, becoming the highest grossing film worldwide.
