The Outer Banks Daredevils are a collegiate summer baseball team located in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The Daredevils are a summer league baseball team, comprised of college players from around the country, using wood bats, and a member of the Tidewater Collegiate Summer Baseball League. The Daredevils are striving to continue the tradition of great collegiate summer baseball here in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and we are honored to have been 6 time summer league champions (2 CPL / 4 TSL). Daredevils History…
The Outer Banks Daredevils Baseball Club was founded in 1997, and are one of the original franchises than began play in the Coastal Plain League in 1997. The took off the 1998 season as they reorganized, then returned to the CPL for the 1999 season. The team played it’s games from 1997 – 2005 at Coy Tillett Memorial Field at Manteo High School. In 2005 the team began playing it’s home games at the First Flight Athletic Complex in Kill Devil Hills, where the team has played from 2005 through today. After taking the 2012 season off, the Daredevils joined the Tidewater Collegiate Summer League in 2013, and continues to bring collegiate summer baseball to the Outer Banks each summer.
Daredevils through the years…
The Daredevils have won two Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup championships (2002, 2003), the award for the league champion, and have reached the finals four times: 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2004. Outer Banks made it to the semifinals of the Petitt Cup Playoffs in 2009 after winning the first half CPL North Division title and reached its highest national ranking ever, No. 7, by Perfect Game Crosschecker. The Daredevils have also won four Postove Cup Championships (2013, 2015, 2016, 2018), the award given to the Tidewater Collegiate Summer Baseball League Champion, and reached the finals in each of it’s 4 out of 5 years as a member of the Tidewater Collegiate Summer Baseball League.

ALUMNI IN THE PROS…
Former Outer Banks standout Mike Rucci, a Division III All-American at Rowan University in New Jersey, was the first and only three-time Coastal Plain League All-Star and named to the CPL All-Decade Team for the Daredevils (2002-04). Marshall Hubbard (2002-03), who now plays at the New York Mets’ Triple A affiliate Buffalo Bisons, is also on the CPL All-Decade Team.
The Daredevils have helped many of its players for the next level. Justin Maxwell (2002) is now an outfielder with Major Lague Baseball’s Washington Nationals. Twenty-one players who have worn a Daredevils jersey have been drafted to play in the pros in the last ten years. Some of those players include: 2007 Major League Baseball Draft: Brandon Waring – Cincinnati (’07 Daredevils), Ryan Eigsti – Kansas City (’07), Zach Sterner – Philadelphia (’07), Gerard Breslin – Philadelphia (’06), Caleb Magnum – Philadelphia (’05), Mike Folli – St. Louis (’06-’07), Cole McCurry – Baltimore (’07). 2008 Major League Baseball Draft: Ryan Kulik – 8th round (’06 Daredevils), Shawn Griffin – 20th round (’07), Tyler Trice – 21st round (’05), Pat Kantakevich – 22nd round (’06), Tommy Johnson – 27th round (’06), Colin Brennan – 34th round (’07), Tyler Howe – 41st round (’07), Ryan Danbury – 42nd round (’07), Tim Smith – 42nd round (’07). 2009 Major League Baseball Draft: Harold Brantley – 30th round Florida Marlins (’09 Daredevils), Tyler Stubblefield – 33rd round to Atlanta Braves (’09), Charles Nading – 37th round to Texas Rangers (’09), Corey Wine – 38th Round to Philadelphia Phillies (’07), Derek Spencer – 45th round to Kansas City Royals (’09). Other notable players who have taken the field here in the Outer Banks during the summer include Justin Verlander, Detroit Tigers; Mark Reynolds, Baltimore Orioles; Kevin Youkilis, New York Yankees; Ryan Zimmerman, Washington Nationals. James Walsh (’14, ’15) drafted in 2016 by the Sioux City Explorers of the American Association. 2017 added two more alumni to the ranks of professional baseball, Chance Ducharme, signed by the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League; Harry Ferguson, signed by the Plattsburgh RedBirds of the Empire Professional Baseball League.
