What do you do after an investor spat sinks your first club? If you're Noel Ashman, who first transformed Nell's into NA, you asked designer Richard Baquero, socialite Anne Dexter-Jones and Michael Ault (owner of Spy Bar and Pangea) to air the place out: In lieu of the previous incarnation's somewhat baroque clutter of chandeliers, Victorian couches and palm trees, the ground floor is now wide open, with two-toned fetish photography hanging on the mahogany wall panels. A column of stiletto-proof couches paired off to face each other runs down the middle of the lacquered floor, softly-illuminated by one of the handsome space's few flourishes—a trio of monolithic chinoiserie lamps. In the booth next to the long bar, NA fixtures Samantha Ronson and Stretch Armstrong, who lean on the rock and hip-hop, trade deck duties with European house DJs while downstairs, another DJ and a smaller bar cater to a more intimate scene. Although the club was originally hyped as semi-private, rest assured that as long as you arrive with your gal pals, the only piece of plastic you'll need here is a handy credit card: The bottle list is almost as long as the list of celeb investors (Chris "Mr. Big" Noth, Petra Nemcova, David Wells, and Damon Dash among them).

The group is 100% composed of volunteers and interested parties, and has expanded into a large amount of related projects for saving online and digital history.
