Dear Sir/madam
#StatNano was established in 2010 as a gateway to the latest information and statistics in Nano-based #Science, #Technology and #Industry. The mission of StatNano is to provide a reliable source of #information on the #development of this fast growing science by #monitoring the status of #nanotechnology development and policies all around the world. Even though significant progress has already been made in the field of nanotechnology, there is still an information gap between science, business, policy and services in this field. Therefore, we have prepared a questionnaire to approach this issue. The questionnaire’s main objectives are collecting and processing data on the existing gap and disseminating the result in order to help further development of Nanotechnology at an international level. It goes without saying that such internationally important project would benefit most if it includes meticulous remarks of active experts in this field from around the world. We hope that you can kindly assist us with this project by sharing your expertise through the #questionnaire.
Your time and consideration is highly appreciated in advance.

NPD’s assessment of nanoproduction in France
According to NPD’s analysis, 10 manufacturers located in #France introduced approximately 90 nano-based products into global #markets in #2015.
The #cosmetics, #construction, #water, and #textile industrial divisions, are the most common fields in which manufacturers have exploited the merits of nanotechnology to improve the features of their products. #BaByliss PRO, #La_Rose_Blanche Paris, #Saint_Gobain Glass, surfactis technologies, #Veolia Water Technologies, #MARIA_GALLAND GmbH, #Degrémont Technologies Ltd, #Altuglas, #Roudière, and #Dickson_Constant® introduce nano-based products into global markets, the properties of which are enabled or enhanced using such nanomaterials as titanium dioxide, gold, and silicone dioxide nanoparticles.
It is worth mentioning that according to Statnano website, France published 282 nanotechnology patents in US Patent and Trademarks Office (USPTO) in 2015. Therefore, as a good first approximation, three patents were published when each single nanoproduct was introduced into markets by French manufacturers in the past year.

Timeline of the #nanotechnology #patent publishing in home appliances
Abstract:  According to the patent analysis, nanotechnology innovation in #home_appliances industry has had a descending trend during the past years.
Generally, highly ascending trend of publishing nanotechnology patents began in 2001 with four published patents. In 2003, the number went up to 49 patents. Then, the approximate descending trend began in 2003 and continued to 2008. It seems that this decrease in the number of patents was because of the severe financial crisis in the world and the change of policies of the corporations active in this field. The increasing trend of the diagram until 2003 and the decreasing trend after that until 2013 shows that this technology has completed its growth stages in the early years and reached a relative maturity in the technical way.

NPD’s assessment of nanoproduction in the USA
In 2015, NPD stored 1169 #nanotechnology products from 194 companies, the headquarter of which are located in the #USA. In other words, the USA has the largest share (ca., 32 %) of the recorded nanoproducts in #NPD among all 44 monitored countries. The #electronics, #automotive, #water, #construction, #textile, #cosmetics, #petroleum, #home_appliance, and #sports industrial divisions, with a share of 24, 17, 14, 13, 11, 10, 7, and 4 % of the total American products in NPD, respectively, are the most common fields in which the manufacturers exploit nanotechnology. Intel, Donaldson Company Inc, Sensor Electronic Technology, #NANOSKIN Car Care, #Reebok International, #TriSep Corporation, #Sephora USA, #Dow Chemical Company, Patagonia Inc, Nanostone Water, Proseal products Inc, and #AMSOIL Inc are the most active companies used nanotechnology to introduce a wide range of products into global markets, some of which are processors, membranes, filters, solutions, LEDs, footwear, cream, and motor oil.‎ These companies enhance or enable the properties of their products using different nanomaterials, as shown in Fig. 1.
Additionally, according to #Statnano website, the US published 4365 nanotechnology patents in US #Patent and Trademarks Office (USPTO) in 2015. Therefore, as a good first approximation, four patents were published when each single nanoproduct was introduced into markets by American manufacturers in the past year.

Silicon Dioxide (SiO2) Nanoparticles
Silicon dioxide ( #SiO2 ) #nanoparticles, also known as #silica nanoparticles and nanosilica, are of the most common nanomaterials used into consumer products available in global markets. By March 2016, NPD has collected approximately 219 products from 103 companies located in 28 different countries, the properties of which are enhanced or enabled using nanotechnology. SiO2 nanoparticles are the basis for a great deal of biomedical research due to their stability, low toxicity, and ability to be functionalized with a range of molecules and polymers. The most common features which SiO2 nanoparticles improve in the products are resistance to #water, #oil, #dirt, #stain, #UV, and #abrasion. These products are from the textile, construction, water, petroleum, automotive, and cosmetics industries with a share of 42, 36, 9, 5, 4, and 4 % as shown in the following figure. COFRA Srl, Zhengzhou Dongshen, NanoTech Coatings, Caparol, Changzhou Keyuan, Nano Surface Solutions, Purely RO, and KRETETEK Industries are the most active manufacturers of nanoproducts using SiO2. In this regard, #USA, #Germany, and #China produce the most number of nanoproducts such as #paints, #pants, #fabrics, and #filters using SiO2 nanoparticles.

The following figure shows a new generation surface-reconditioning Nano lubricant for engine oil produced by Pyro Products Ltd (LIGHT INDUSTRIAL NANOLUBE RC-S). This product enjoy multi-layer WS2 Nanospheres, lowering friction and heating and reducing mechanical wear. Friction causes Nanospheres to release tribofilms that attach to surface crevices and re-smoothen them, thereby extending mechanical efficiency and apparatus life.
The properties of the product are as follows:
- Reduced Friction in engine
- 15 % reduced fuel consumption
- Reduce engine noise & vibration
- Improved power & torque performance
- Minimized engine wear

Nano-based refrigerators introduced in global markets in 2015

In 2015, 79 nano-based #refrigerators were recorded in #NPD. Companies such as #Hitachi Ltd, #LG Electronics Inc, #Sharp Corporation, #Mitsubishi Electric, #Electrolux, #Teka Group, #Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, and #Daewoo Electronic improve the features of their products using #TiO2, #Ag, and #Cu #nanoparticles to keep up with new consumer demands as well as their competitors.
Japan, South Korea, Sweden, USA, Germany, China, and South Africa exploit nanotechnology to provide their products with special enhanced or enabled properties such as resistance to odor, bacteria, microbes, mold, frost, fingerprint, and spill.
The following figure shows a nano-based refrigerator produced by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd (QUATRO Multi Door with Water Dispenser). This product enjoy Silver Nano Health System™, that is a sophisticated nano-technology which is applied to the silver nano coating of SAMSUNG's refrigerator, which shows an anti-bacterial effect. Since propagation of fungi and bacteria inside refrigerators is prevented, you can keep your refrigerator fresh and clean. With SAMSUNG's Silver Nano anti-bacterial coating, the inner walls of the refrigerator are coated with silver particles that destroy 99.9% of bacteria. The propagation of fungi and bacteria is stopped, giving you hygienic food storage. Silver particles coated on the inner walls of a refrigerator stop bacteria from multiplying, helping to keep the inside of the refrigerator clean and hygienic. Nano-sized silver particles also float with the airflow, preventing diffusion of bacteria that causes vegetables to lose their freshness. This improvement is particularly noticeable in leafy vegetables.
