Manufacturing of boards has begun for makertum's 110/230 V~ PCB heated bed: http://bit.ly/1NIwvZ3 #Hackadayio
The Makertum MK1 is a mains voltage heated bed for 3D printers with dual voltage support (230/110 V~), 500 W of heat output, 2 minutes heatup time (110 °C), power indicator LED and onboard thermal fuse. The beta test was overly successful, and preproduction boards are available now in the Makertum Shop and on Tindie. IMHO, it’s pretty much nuts to convert down mains voltage in a power supply to 12/24V just to drive a large heating element, exc...

[Decino] made a nice LED animated blinking heart box for his girlfriend. That’s a nice gesture, but more to the point here, it’s a nice entrée into the world of custom hardware. The project isn’t anything more than a home-etched PCB, a custom 3D-printed…

There are certain design guidelines for PCBs that don’t make a lot of sense, and practices that seem excessive and unnecessary. Often these are motivated by the black magic that is RF transmission. This is either an unfortunate and unintended consequence…

World War I began in 1914 as a fight among several European nations, while the United States pursued a policy of non-intervention. In fact, Woodrow Wilson was reelected President largely because “He kept us out of war”. But as the war unfolded in Europe,…

I don’t think we’ll call virtual assistants done until we can say, “Make me a sandwich” (without adding “sudo”) and have a sandwich made and delivered to us while sitting in front of our televisions. However, they are not completely without use as they…

For just about as long as there have been electronics, there’s been a search for a way to let students and hobbyists build projects without a lot of effort. A board with Fahnestock clips was probably the first attempt. Today, it is more often the…

A tool breaking in the midst of a CNC machining operation is always a disaster. Not only do you have a broken tool (no small expense), but if the program continues to run there is a good chance it’ll end up ruining your part too. In particularly bad…

An old ATX case from a PC, an ATX power supply & 36V/5A CC PSU makes a flexible Lab/Bench Power Supply. https://goo.gl/Km2lWD
Being a budding beginner hobbyist in electronics with about a year blindly stumbling about with Arduino and ESP8266, just completed my DYI "Third hand" i figured i am committed enough to have a stab at the mandatory ATX to Bench Power Supply conversion so my plan is to use an old ATX case from a PC and an old ATX power supply both of i which i have plenty of on hand, and add an additional 36V/5A CC PSU and convert these to a current limiting Ben...

If you haven’t gone laptop shopping recently, you’re in for a big shock when you do. While the current generation of MacBook Pros is rightly torn to shreds for being an overpriced machine with a stupid gimmick of a Touch Bar, there are issues with laptops…
