Internet of Things – Monetization Opportunities for B2Bs
By Sean Kirk
When it comes to monetizing the Internet of Things, it can appear that
consumer scenarios are where all the action is. Connected cars, homes,
kitchen appliances, connected clothing — connected wrists. If you’re a
B2B company, you may be feeling left out of the party. Fear not. Your RSVP is
waiting. In fact, the market potential for IoT may be as large for B2B
companies as for B2C, if not larger.
Here’s a look at just a few of the burgeoning IoT opportunities in store
for companies that serve business-to-business customers.
Business Versions of Consumer Offerings
It’s true; many IoT offerings do indeed target consumers. But often, those
same products and services are equally applicable to business. A prime
example is DropCam. With its namesake consumer version, you can keep an eye
on hearth and h... (more)
The Emerging Business Technology Outlook for 2015
The savvy CEOs that approved significant investments in business technology
during 2014 are reaping the rewards of their first-to-market leadership
advantage. Meanwhile, executives at the fast-follower companies are no doubt
assessing how they plan to catch-up with the early-adopters of cloud services
in 2015.
This rapidly evolving IT transformation scenario is pervasive. It's happening
in every corner of the globe. So, what's the outlook for worldwide cloud
service adoption and how will the key trends impact cloud computing

What do you get when you combine Big Data technologies….like Pig and
Hive? A flying pig?
No, you get a “Logical Data Warehouse”.
My general prediction is that Cloudera and Hortonworks are both aggressively
moving to fulfilling a vision which looks a lot like Gartner’s “Logical
Data Warehouse”….namely, “the next-generation data warehouse that
improves agility, enables innovation and responds more efficiently to
changing business requirements.”
In 2012, Infochimps (now CSC) leveraged its early use of stream processing,
NoSQLs, and Hadoop to create a design pattern which combined r... (more)
Have you figured out the new buzzword trend for 2014 that starting ramping up
in 2013?
Yup, it's Internet of Things (IoT) and Internet of Devicess (IoD)
Assuming that IoT, IoD and other variations catch on which looks like they
will, this could bring relief and rest for the over-worked Big Data and
Software Defined "X" buzzword bingo bandwagon usage.
Introducing IoX?
For those not familiar with Software Defined "X", simply replace "X" with
your favorite term such as Data Center (SDDC), Networking (SDN), Storage
(SDS), Marketing, (SDM) among others.as the new IT (and beyond) indus... (more)
If you listen to the persistent murmur in the market surrounding the Internet
of Things right now, you'd believe that it's all about sensors. Sensors and
big data. Sensors that monitor everything from entertainment habits to health
status to more mundane environmental data about your home and office.
to a certain degree this is accurate. The Internet of Things comprises, well,
things. But the question that must be asked - and is being asked in some
circles - is not only where that data ends up but how organizations are going
to analyze it and, more importantly, monetize it.
But t... (more)
Real-time Analysis of IoT on Microsoft Azure with Stream Analytics
Simply put, it is about collection of data from various devices (different
types, different protocols, different complexity, etc) in real-time and
aggregating and processing this incoming stream of data to provide useful
information. This can enormously improve efficency and make the business
stand out. Presently businesses may be implementing custom solutions for
addressing such data handling and analysing scenarios.
This is going to get more streamlined, easy and cost-effective using the
recently introduced Azure ... (more)
