Goat Simulator dev: Multiplayer will 'open a lot of new doors for modders'

Goat Simulator developer Coffee Stain Studios expects that the upcoming addition of a split-screen option to the game will turn the mod community loose on creating multiplayer content, said game designer Armin Ibrisagic in an interview with Polygon. Ibrisagic announced yesterday that Coffee Stain is bringing split-screen multiplayer to Goat Simulator with the game's next update, patch 1.1, which is scheduled to be released in mid-May. The company said earlier that online multiplayer isn't possible because the title's physics engine can't be synchronized across multiple computers. Instead, the split-screen mode will feature support for two to four local players in co-op play. According to Ibrisagic, Coffee Stain is adding multiplayer "simply because so many people asked for it." The...

Goat Simulator's stupidity and fun doubles with impending split-screen multiplayer

A free upcoming update for Coffee Stain Studios' Goat Simulator, patch 1.1, will introduce local split-screen multiplayer, a new map and more, the developer revealed yesterday. The update is scheduled to arrive mid-May and will include a new playable map that is "roughly the size of the original map," new achievements, new goats and more alongside the split-screen multiplayer. Offering online multiplayer is not possible at this stage, according to the announcement, due to physics synchronization difficulties. "A lot of you have been asking for DLCs for Goat Simulator. However, since we have Steam Workshop support, we'd feel bad charging for DLC when you can just download stuff for free at the workshop," wrote game designer Armin Ibrisagic. "We still want to make new content though,...

Goat Simulator - Overview video

It's a game with immeasurable emergent joy, thanks to its sandbox structure and easily broken physical laws. Finding all of the hidden goat stunts available in its surprisingly dense world is a delight, and discovering new ways to kick those objects into the stratosphere is doubly enjoyable. Also, sometimes the goat gets stuck in the torso of another person, which is fine. Goat Simulator is one of those rare games that's great when it works, and even better when it doesn't. In today's Overview, Chris Plante and I see what kinds of shenanigans we can get up to in Goat Simulator. As it turns out, we can get into all of the shenanigans. All the shenanigans you could ever conceive of inside your mind's eye.

Goat Simulator trailer shows the dangers of being a goat

The launch trailer for Coffee Stain Studios' Goat Simulator illustrates the perils of being a goat — or rather, having the world around you destroyed by a goat. The trailer above is a parody of the widely-praised Dead Island trailer featuring scenes of destruction played backwards. For Goat Simulator, shots of the goat laying on the ground are cut between scenes of the goat wreaking havoc, people on fire, the goat crashing into buildings and flying through the air after a gas station explosion. Goat Simulator will launch on April 1 for Windows PC. Check out our hands-on with the title from GDC 2014 for more details on how players can destroy their surroundings and carry heavy objects using the goat's abnormally long tongue.

The stupid, ridiculous fun of Goat Simulator

The people-licking, goat rocketing, open-world madness that is Coffee Stain Studios' viral hit gives players the chance to experience what few games offer — pure comedic chaos. During a recent hands-on session with the title at Game Developers Conference 2014, I experienced all of the following in a span of about 30 seconds: headbutting humans, tongue-lashing basketballs, plowing into cars, cars plowing into me, pool trampolining and shooting through the air like a poorly aimed missile. My experience was nothing if not varied. Already the studio's most popular project to date, Goat Simulator began as a game jam project with no intentions of a real release. In February, following a positive reaction from the gaming community, it was announced for Steam. Coffee Stain likens it to a...

Goat Simulator's Steam support is the 'most defining and important part'

Steam support for Goat Simulator, Coffee Stain Studios' upcoming goat-based game, is likely to be "the most defining and important part" of the game, designer Armin Ibrisagic wrote on Gamasutra. In a post detailing the game's humble beginnings — as a game jam intended to spark creativity — Ibrisagic explains that the developer was unsure if Valve "would even accept such a stupid game" for Steam. After a positive response from the company, however, Coffee Stain Studios released its first Steam trailer. With Steam support, Ibrisagic continued, the developer can expand on its strange project. "It means that we can add Steam Workshop, and let players not only make their own goat, but also their own levels, props, missions and more," Ibrisagic wrote. "People are going to make levels...

Goat Simulator heads to Steam April 1

Goat Simulator, Coffee Stain Studios' game jam entry-turned full title, will be available for Steam on April 1, the developer revealed as part of a FAQ on its site. Announced for Steam last month, the game will allow players to run amok as a goat. Goat Simulator was created to be "small and silly," and players will be able to edit their own levels with Steam Workshop. The game will not include multiplayer options. "With multiplayer, we'd have to remove 90 percent of the physics, all destructible objects and a lot of our favorite features," the FAQ reads. Goat Simulator is currently available for pre-order for $9.99. The game is being developed exclusively for Windows PC. Although there are no plans for Linux or Mac editions at this time, ports could be added later with enough requests...
