In our market driven Wall Street culture it’s a cash game and everyone’s got a number. In a digital world where we’ve traded illusion for reality, some artists will go to great extremes to get attention. Explore what happens when the music takes back seat at the CMJ 2013 panel, “Pushing the Envelope in the Age of Spectacle.”

New York City finally felt fall approaching last Saturday night, and the drop in temperature could not have been more timely, coinciding with the performance of Justin Vernon’s side project, Volcano Choir. Several citizens packed Webster Hall to hear the wispy sounds of the Bon Iver front man, hoping to be enchanted by the pain-stricken voice affiliated with the Grammy-winning “indie poster-child.”  Read the full review here.

Just before the Get Lucky ennui set in, Daft Punk released their second Random Access Memories single, Lose Yourself To Dance, and today they’ve shared a visual for that track. A shortened version of the clip aired during the VMAs, but you probably missed that.

It’s a fairly simple concept for the mysterious helmet-wearing duo; a space-age take on the ol’ “here’s us playing in a garage” video. The clip features Pharrell, Nile Rodgers, and Daft Punk performing on an elevated (floating?) stage above adoring fans. As the group grooves its way through the robotic disco jam, the members glow and glisten like holograms. Maybe they took notes from will.i.am.

While it’s no doubt a fantasy that anyone in this high-energy indie-crunch combo could actually slam dunk a basketball, Slam Dunk’s timing is good, as not only is the NBA season nearly upon us, but so too is the band’s tour with Built To Spill, which starts on October 16. This is an exclusive premiere of the video for their latest single, Fantasy, off their sophomore album, Welcome To Miami. If you’re a fan of cool, yellowing vintage pulp magazines, and/or incredibly rhythmic editing, set your peepers on this amazing clip.
