A pair of Pittsford women are organizing a neighborhood potluck to get to know their neighbors after reading a book from a local Brighton author who studied community connections at an intimate level.
The annual meeting of the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association was held this morning at Steamboat Landing, and hydrofracking was a topic of concern for many Watershed members.
Most members spoke about their feelings against the “sideways drilling” measure and Past-President Lynn Thruston said no action would be taken until reports by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency are completed.
The 60-year-old Pittsford resident is remembered as "a leader, an advocate and an inspiration to so many."
Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-Fairport) was in Rochester today addressing the need for stricter regulations for the testing of body armor used in the U.S. military.
In 2006 she called for an investigation of these procedures after reading an article that cited a Pentagon study, which found that up to 80 percent of marines who died of upper body injuries in combat if they had extra body armor.
"If we're going to send them over, we should be giving them the best we can possibly give them," said Slaughter. "I think it's our obligation to make sure they are well equipped."
