Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-Fairport) was in Rochester today addressing the need for stricter regulations for the testing of body armor used in the U.S. military.
In 2006 she called for an investigation of these procedures after reading an article that cited a Pentagon study, which found that up to 80 percent of marines who died of upper body injuries in combat if they had extra body armor.
"If we're going to send them over, we should be giving them the best we can possibly give them," said Slaughter. "I think it's our obligation to make sure they are well equipped."

The Buffalo Bills wrapped up another training camp at St. John Fisher College Thursday afternoon. Bills Chief Executive Officer Russ Brandon said it likely won’t be the last time the team holds its training camp in Pittsford.
“We have had a tremendous decade here at Fisher with the President and the staff,” said Brandon, a St. John Fisher graduate. “This is a tremendous place to prepare and we have had a lot of discussions over the last month and the long of short of it is, I think we are closing in on an agreement for St. John Fisher to be the summer home of the Bills for many years to come.”
Buffalo has held training camp at the college since 2000. This summer was the last year of the team’s contract with Fisher.
When describing the Fairport Music and Food Festival, organizer Rob Burch says it’s a huge collaboration by people from all over.
“It’s an army of volunteers, and many come directly from the community,” said Burch, who has coordinated the event along with Andy McDermott for the last six years.
So far, the event has raised nearly $300,000 for Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong, and they’re looking to surpass that number this year.
