State alert targets adults

As the baby boomer population ages, Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero says his office is bracing for an increase in cases where  Alzheimer’s patients and other at-risk adults go missing.

 “We’re all anticipating a large growth in senior cases,” said Povero. “We’re hoping for the best and planning for the worst, but we might see more unfortunate situations.”

Chief: Quick response time prevents further fire damage in Canandaigua

The Canandaigua Fire Department responded to multiple fires within a three day span, and a quick response time helped prevent extensive damage in both cases, said Chief Mark Marentette.

The first fire occurred shortly after 6 a.m. Monday, at 38 Canandaigua Avenue. According to Marentette, The blaze started in the back end of a carport and extended to a shed attached to the house, owned by Steve Potter. Marentette added that the cause was a light bulb that had burned out. There were no injuries, and there was some minor smoke damage to items in the attic of the house.
