When David Finnegan went to sleep Tuesday night, the day’s thunderous rainstorms hadn’t affected his 100 acres of property in South Bristol. But by the morning, plots of land were covered in sticks, stones, mud and organic matter, pushed downhill by the heavy water.
Finnegan was one of many residents in southern Ontario County whose hillside properties were subject to the overflow of gullies. Crews were seen on Route 64 and county roads 33 and 34 as they cleaned up driveway entrances, hauling away mounds of sludge-like matter.
“There’s weeks worth of work here, it’s a little demoralizing,” Finnegan said. Not only can he not use his primary driveway, but extra creeks were formed on a tree-covered hillside, where there used to be only grass, Finnegan said.
