Written by SUNY Oswego theater professor Mark Cole, the comical "Pantalone Meets His Match" is set in Venice in the 1500s and centers on two lecherous old men trying to steal young brides for themselves, and the attempts of those around them to stop it.
It follows the theater genre known as “Commedia d’ell Arte” that uses stock characters and emphasizes actor improvisation and interaction with the audience. At its core, “It’s a comedy that celebrates love,” said actress Jessica Katz.
The cast includes members of an emerging theater group known as CommediaROC, which consists of Fairport High School alumni and current FHS students. The play is directed by FHS English teacher Mark Northrup and Kaylie Winkler Northrup.
