The Tequila Sunrise was invented sometime near the end of Prohibition at Tijuana's famed Agua Caliente casino-resort-racetrack and, well, let's just say the policia knew about it.
Combine the tequila (reposado, preferably), lime juice, and salt in a tall glass. Add ice, top off with grapefruit soda, and stir.
A relative newcomer to cocktail Olympus, the margarita is the last great cocktail to come into wide use before the vodka revolution sent the finer points of mixology to the guillotine.
