HDX-BD1
Long awaited successor to one of the best of the NMT players, the HDX-1000. The BD1 is now equipped with the latest Sigma 8642 chipset and boasts the ability to play Blu-Ray disks via an externally attached (USB/eSATA) drive.

The Sigma 8642 inside the HDX-BD1 is the state of the art for Media Players, it offers unbeatable decoding performance and comprehensive format support. Connectivity options here are equally good with everything we would ask for including eSATA and component video. The HDX is one of the few Media Players to offer full Blu-Ray ISO and Blu-Ray from connected drive support, including BD-Live. There is also an inbuilt Mozilla web browser and Bittorrent software. Unlike the previous HDX, which used Syabas NMT software, this device uses an interface developed in house by HDX called 'Voir'. Unfortunately this software is buggy. Problems have been reported with networking, colour display, UPnP.

The BD-1 is technically a very capable player. It can potentially do 'everything'. However, keep an eye on the forums for the current state of the firmware.

Is HDX History?

All three web site links are down. I believe that this marks their end. Considering HDX's disdain for their customers and lack of followup, good riddance.

This is one poor company, full of imperfections.
I also bought a BD1, this full of problems and bugs.
Who does not exist answers the questions and information, a called person Alex only answered some mails, but it has one 10 days that simply it disappeared.
In the forum of the HD1 this completely abandoned.
I believe that this cia has declared insolvent I goes to give to a blow in all its users.

I RECOMMEND STRONG TO THAT THEY DO NOT BUY NOTHING OF THEM ABSOLUTELY.

IF SOMEBODY STOWS WITH PURCHASES EFFECTED THAT PROCEED TO THE CANCELLATION.
THE PAYPAL CAN AT ANY TIME BE CANCELLED.

THEY DO NOT LOSE ITS TIME THAT THESE OUTLAWS.

Sorry my english, i am from Brazil.

Tks.

5 months later, the Ethernet still works at 50 Mbps instead of advertised 1000 Mbps.

Although the hardware itself shows great potential (a very cool processor, nice packaging), the box in its present form with firmware 4.9 is simply not usable. Very basic, essential low level functions simply don’t work.

I posted in pretty polite terms on their community forum site and found my posting was quickly deleted (a violation of their site rules, they said). I was asking management to be more open about the firmware progress rather than promising and then blindsiding users with additional delays. Since my purchase, HDX has kept rolling back the date of their release of the next firmware, leaving purchasers hanging in stasis.

HDX clearly donesn’t want negative issues posted. I'm not naive about how business' need to run but I was truly surprised by their management's heavy handed behavior which I see as highly counter-productive. That said, not only did my posting get deleted but private messages that I sent to other users were read by management and flagged similarly, as a violation. Dealing with technical and customer relations issues by censoring postings is not an impressive way to run a business.

Google the web site for "networkedmediatank" under "Other NMT Mediaplayers", you'll get a taste of what's going on with the company.

Additionally, HDX's own community forums still have enough up there to raise the red flag...

"I have a HDX-1000 and while it's a great machine, HDX are sooooo slowwww at bring updates. I think this is one of the many reasons why I didn't buy BD-1. I bought a Popcorn Hour C-200 instead and very happy. I will never buy a HDX again. sorry alex , but I've been burned way too many times buy your machines."

"I had been quite enthusiastic and unfortunately already purchased two BD-1 in January - which are still of no use at all due to the network issues. However, I had been planning to get some additional units but actually the FW thing is preventing me from doing it."

Additonally, from what I have read on their forums, RMA issues are not well handled either. Since there are alternatives to the HDX from companies like the Popcorn, AC Ryan and Dune. Some of them (like the Popcorn) have a much larger user base and clearly a better attitude toward their customers.

Thanks. I was about to book. Now I'll wait for XTreamer Pro review and then will decide.
Anyway, $220 is not correct price to mention on this forum when xtreamer pro is quoted $235 which includes shipping price. HDX-BD1 too has $50 shipping price and including it, cost goes to $270. please change price either of xTreamer Pro or HDX-BD1

The CNET UK Review states as follows, "the BD-1 uses Universal Plug and Play to get media from servers on your home network." is this still the case? UPNP is the problem I have now with the PS3, Not a good solution if you can't access the files directly on network shares (WHS in my case). This box is/was in my top 2 pending the release of the popbox and Dlink Boxee.

189 is a quite unrealistic price for Europe, as it's being sold at 250
