Counseling and wellness resources for teens and young adults

Welcome to Potomac Pathways...

It might be hard to believe, but teens that take part in our treatment programs actually enjoy the experience! Here's what teens tell us they like most about Potomac Pathways: the warm, welcoming, and non-institutional atmosphere; the experiential elements of the program like drumming, meditation and outdoor adventure activities; the supportive staff, and a positive peer culture of teens who are serious about recovery.

How do we do it? It's simple; we don't do all the things that we have observed don't work with teens, and we have integrated many important program elements that keep kids engaged, interested, and invested. And the research all points to this rather obvious conclusion: keeping teens invested in treatment longer results in better outcomes. In fact, practically everything we do in our programs (including serving snacks!) is based on current research in the field of mental health and addictions treatment that has been demonstrated to improve successful outcomes for adolescents. Plus, of course, our staff includes licensed counselors who have years of experience working with teens in treatment programs.

So, feel free to browse through the information on the website, and take a look at the services we offer. From our standard clinical services for adolescents to our unique aftercare program-the only one of it's kind in the area-you'll find smart, sophisticated services that allow teens to remain at home and keep moving forward. Welcome to Potomac Pathways—we're here to help!

Program Information:
Aftercare Program - Now in Its Fifth Year!

Potomac Pathways Aftercare is an outpatient program for teens and young adults who can benefit from a higher level of support. For kids with moderately serious difficulties with mood issues, behavioral issues or substance abuse, this program provides high quality services not available anywhere else in the Washington, DC area. Small groups allow for a higher level of interaction and involvement; peer mentors help to create a unique positive peer culture, and experiential elements help keep the interest level strong.
