The Center for Outdoor Ethics is pleased to offer a wide variety of specialized Leave No Trace training to meet the needs of diverse outdoor enthusiasts, land managers and the general public. With a wealth of expertise on staff, the Center can customize trainings that focus on any aspect of the Leave No Trace program. See below for a listing of custom training options or contact Ben Lawhon to discuss how the Center can meet your specific needs.
This 4-hour training focuses on how to effectively disseminate Leave No Trace information on the ground, face-to-face with visitors. It also provides in-depth training in the Authority of the Resource Technique, a proven method of changing visitor behavior through deemphasizing regulation in favor of education about the natural world around us. This technique is widely used by federal, state and local land managers as well as volunteer stewards around the world.
Fee: $480 + travel expenses (includes course materials and 2 instructors)
Both the PEAK (Promoting Environmental Awareness in Kids) and Teen Programs are tremendously effective educational programs that teach young people how to enjoy the outdoors responsibly and how to be good stewards of the natural world. This training offers in-depth information and practical experience on how to effectively deliver either or both education programs as desired.
Fee: Half-day $480 + travel expenses (includes course materials and 2 instructors). Full-day $760 (includes course materials and 2 instructors)
These formal Leave No Trace trainings range from half a day to a full 8 hours and can easily be tailored to meet specific resource or recreation needs. While the core of each Workshop is the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace, the information can be adapted to better resonate with the intended audience, situations and environments staff most commonly deal with.

Trainer Courses are designed for educators, guides, agency employees, and other outdoor professionals. Successful graduates of the Trainer Course gain the skills to teach Leave No Trace techniques and ethics to their clients, friends and family. Participants learn the concepts of Leave No Trace and prepare to teach Leave No Trace curriculum in a variety of settings: schools, camps, parks, wilderness and front country areas. Workshop topics include the underlying ethics and seven principles of Leave No Trace. Successful graduates are authorized to facilitate Leave No Trace Awareness Workshops.
Fee: $1700 (includes 2 instructors, course materials, food and group equipment for a maximum of 12 participants) + travel expenses

Depending on specific needs, Center staff can create locally tailored trainings to expertly address specific issues, recreational activities or environmental concerns. Contact the Center for details.
Fee: Less than one day – billed at $60 per hour per instructor plus travel expenses; one full day (8 hours) – billed at $380 per day, per instructor + travel expenses.
To create a locally tailored Leave No Trace Program in your area, The Center can provide some or all of the following services:
Specific skills, e.g. campfires, food/trash storage, human waste disposal, dishwashing, campground etiquette, etc.
Fees: Fees for program development vary depending on the scope of the program(s). However, the starting fee is $60 per hour + travel expenses. Generally, most program development project fees range from $500-$2500.
