Leave No Trace is not just a slogan or a training program – it is an ethic, and a way of life. Integrating Leave No Trace ethics into how we live today positively affects the life we lead tomorrow. Here are some ways you can get started.
1 Minute: Explore the 7 principles of Leave No Trace and discover the ways to make them relevant in your life and in the lives of your friends and family.
10 Minutes: Contact the Center to be a guest blogger and share all the great work you’re doing in support of Leave No Trace.
30 Minutes: Talk about Leave No Trace with others. What is it? Why are you involved? Why is it important that others are involved, too?
1 Hour: Check out the Leave No Trace grants programs and find ways you can begin to build a sustainable educational programs with the Center’s help.
1 Day: Curious about the education and practices behind Leave No Trace? Peak your interest at an Awareness Workshop in your area.
1 Weekend: Take a Trainer Course. Not only will you learn new Leave No Trace techniques, you will learn how to educate others on the ethics and education of Leave No Trace.

1 Minute: Lead by example. Pick up trash on a trail. Walk through a puddle to minimize damage rather than walk around it off-trail.
10 Minutes: Become a Leave No Trace Member! Join fellow outdoor enthusiasts in supporting Leave No Trace and enable us to continue educating countless others on responsible outdoor ethics.
30 Minutes: Read the latest blog from the Traveling Trainer teams and see when they’ll be in your neighborhood. This is a great opportunity to read about Leave No Trace education in action, and have the opportunity to dialogue with the Traveling Trainers themselves!
1 Hour: Take a kid outside for a walk in a park, on a trail or any outdoor place. Exposing kids to the outdoors and the basics of Leave No Trace is a critical first step in developing future conservation leaders.
1 Day: Coordinate a day with your local park to hand out Leave No Trace Reference Cards to other park visitors.
1 Weekend: Contact your State Advocate and offer to volunteer at the next Leave No Trace event they’re attending. Our volunteers and their grassroots education efforts are vital to the success of Leave No Trace outdoor ethics.
1 Minute: Suggest that your employer or nonprofit groups you volunteer with join Leave No Trace as a partner. Through our network of partners, Leave No Trace was able to reach over 10 million people last year.
10 Minutes: Check out your state listings on the online Community page, for quick & easy access to other Leave No Trace members, events and trainings in your area.
30 Minutes: Spend some time talking with the land managers about the Leave No Trace concerns at their park. Ask how you can assist, offer your suggestions or just say hello.
1 Hour: The next time you’re playing outside with friends or family, think of a catchy jingle with them to help you remember the 7 principles. Send us a recording of your jingle!
1 Day: Set up a Leave No Trace booth at an earth day celebration, National Trails or Public Lands Day, Farmers Market or a similar outdoor festival to share Leave No Trace information.
1 Weekend: Organize a camping trip with friends or neighbors and their kids. Prior to the trip, invite the kids over and teach them some Leave No Trace tips to prepare for a camping excursion.
