| As our staff technicians visit project sites, we are struck by the lack of concise training materials available about reforestation, agroforestry, or afforestation available for technicians and community leaders who want to help alleviate the hardship and suffering of subsistence farmers brought on by logging, over-grazing, "slash-and-burn" farming and other activities that are devastating their lands. |
At present, only about 10% of the world's deforested lands are being put back into trees, and only a few of these projects are proving to be sustainable over the years. We believe that many additional, better projects would result if useful information and ideas were made more readily available.
In response to this need, we have created this Agroforestry Training Program. In it we offer our own experience and that of the 9,500 communities in which we have served over a period of more than 30 years, where we and the hundreds of local organizations with which we partner have helped local families to plant more than 60 million trees. |
