60% of wealthy Americans use social networks
Wealthy consumer participation in online social networks dramatically increased to 60% in 2008, from 27% in 2007, according to The Luxury Institute. Participation levels in leading social networks are: 16% for MySpace, 13% for LinkedIn, and 11% for Facebook. The wealthy average membership in 2.8 social networks, with an average of 110 connections. 65% of wealthy consumers say that giving out personal data without permission will cause them to disconnect; 63% have an interest in “do not track” lists.

33.5% of global patents filed by US companies in 2007
US-based businesses accounted for 33.5% of total patents filed internationally in 2007, World Intellectual Property Organization said. US companies filed 156,100 international patent applications. The total number of patents filed worldwide was up by 4.7% over 2006.

12.3 mln IPTV subscribers worldwide
The number of Internet TV subscribers more than doubled in 2007 to 12.3 mln worldwide. Western Europe, led by France, accounted for 57% of global IPTV subscribers, Informa Telecoms & Media said. China now has about 1 mln IPTV subscribers and Hong Kong already had 1 mln in September 2007, making it the world’s most mature IPTV market with 60% of DSL broadband customers subscribing for TV over the Web.

22% of Americans read blogs regularly
22% of Americans read blogs regularly, meaning several times a month or more, according to Harris Interactive. 19% of people ages 18 to 31, and 17% of those ages 32 to 43, regularly read a political blog. The generation most likely to read such blogs are those age 63 or older, 26% of whom said they do so. 23% of those aged 44 to 62 read them. 22% of Republicans and 20% of Democrats regularly read blogs, while 26% of independents do the same.

Google had 66.44% of all US searches in February 2008
Google accounted for 66.44% of all US searches in the four weeks ended February 23, while Ask.com increased its share of searches 18% year over year - from 3.52% of searches in February 2007 to 4.16% in February 2008, according to Hitwise. Yahoo Search and MSN Search received 20.59% and 6.95% of US searches, respectively, in February 2008.

Digital photo frames generated $699 mln in Q1 2008
Digital photo frames will be the world’s fastest-growing application for small/medium display in 2008, with global revenue rising to $699 mln, up 91.4% from $395 mln in 2007, according to iSuppli. Mobile handsets will continue to dominate the market, accounting for $15.9 bln in revenue in 2008, up 17.3% from $13.5 bln in 2007.

Ad revenues will grow 3.6% in Europe and 3.7% in the US in 2008-2012
2008 will be a difficult year for TV advertising, with spend growing at a lower rate than the economy: that is, just 1.9% in Europe and 1.5% in the US, according to ScreenDigest. Advertising revenues will grow below average GDP growth between 2008-2012, with annual growth rates of 3.6% in Europe and 3.7% in the US. The growth rate in 2011-2012 will be higher - at 5% in Europe and 6% in the US - as the economy picks up after 2008/2009. Most of that growth will come from online advertising, which is expected to grow on average 17% every year until 2012.

The number of computers using mobile broadband technology to access the Internet grew by 154% in Q4 2007 versus Q4 2006.

Game software sales up 21% in Germany in 2007
German games software sales grew 21% to 1.36 bln euros ($2.1 bln) in 2007. Sales of PC games slipped 3% to 458 mln euros. Games for mobile devices were the fastest-growing segment of the market, with sales rising 65% to 360 mln euros as more casual gamers entered the market, BIU reports.

US employers lost 63,000 jobs in February 2008, the most in five years, after trimming 22,000 jobs in January 2008, US Labor Department said.
