Sun Microsystems Inc. said Thursday it has agreed to acquire Pixo Inc., a privately held company that sells software for managing digital content delivered to mobile devices.
The all-cash transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of Sun's 2004 fiscal year, which begins July 1. Pixo will become a part of Sun's software group, led by Executive Vice President Jonathan Schwartz. Financial details were not released.
Pixo, based in San Jose, Calif., sells Java-based server software to manage the distribution of digital content, such as games, for cellular phones and other handheld devices. The acquisition gives Sun a presence in the area of digital rights and access management for content distribution, company officials said.
