WATERBURY, Conn. -- Plans are being drafted to replace a dangerous interchange, but the project's construction wouldn't begin for another 15 years.Drivers of the Mixmaster, the interchange between Interstate 84 and Route 8 in Waterbury call the roadway an eyesore and a traffic nightmare."There's always accidents out there. You have to look back and turn to your left to get on your other exit. And that's where all the accidents occur," Pedro Rodriguez, a Mixmaster driver said. The raised highways host a combined total of 151,000 vehicles each day.
"It's really the last piece of 84 we need to look at," said Carmen Trotta of the state Department of Transportation. The DOT is working with Waterbury officials to draft a plan to fix the area. The project is expected to cost up to $2 billion and construction isn't slated to start for at least 15 years.Stay with WFSB.com and Channel 3 Eyewitness News for the latest news updates.
