Here’s another reason why you don’t need Apple TV right now: You need to save up your money for all the other good things that Apple needs you to buy, like the iPhone and another Mac Mini, and enough RAM to let you run Vista under Parallels because there are just one or two apps that you need that only run on XP - which you can’t get anymore. The other problem is that I don’t have a widescreen TV (waiting for that price drop in February 2009) and I already have a DVD player and Tivo. Just so much that one person can do to support the consumer electronic business world.

The item today from the Consumerists “How I Was Driven to Music Piracy” is the reason, in microcosm, of why the present system is transitional and not sustainable. With over $20,000 in music content purchases over fifteen years, the story of this consumer’s efforts to do the right thing is confounding. The WSJ headline of the music industry’s losses (down 20% year to year from the first Quarter of 2006) should surprise no one. The collateral damage (like internet radio) is what we have to be concerned about as this old business model creaks along to the grave.
