Tim Valentine

Portrait of Tim ValentineThis week’s NC Notable, Tim Valentine, is known for being fiscally conservative, extremely accessible, and a steward of the environment.

Itmous Thaddeus Valentine, Jr, known by as Tim, was a three-term State representative and six-term member of Congress.

This Nash County native graduated from The Citadel, then received a law degree from UNC Chapel Hill. In the legislature, Valentine chaired the NC House Judiciary Committee, becoming legal advisor and legislative counsel to Governor Dan Moore.

In 1983 Valentine was elected to Congress and chaired the subcommittee on Science, Space and Technology. Tim focused on improving state roads and airports, small businesses, and free enterprise. Valentine’s push to protect the environment continued as founding member and President of the Save our State organization and the Tar River Land Conservancy.

Valentine says he now enjoys his “vast” cattle operation of nine cattle and delights in 14 grandchildren.

For his distinguished career in public service we salute Tim Valentine this week’s NC Notable.
