For the first
time in the Asiad history, the Games were hosted in Middle
East. Tehran, the capital of Aryameher Empire known as Iran.
25 countries/NOCs, the maximum participation so far, including
the People�s Republic of China and Democratic People�s
Republic of Korea brought the largest delegation to the Asian
Games. It was a sure sign of growth and expansion of the Asian
Games Movement. Gymnastics and Fencing were new additional
disciplines from this Asiad. In addition to use of the
state-of-the-art technologies, from
synthetic track to
photo-finish camera, the Games was known for strict security
measures due to reported threats from the Palestinians and a
Japanese militant sect.
