Soben is working with a leading UK energy supplier to deliver a high voltage direct current (HVDC) major project, comprising two £0.5b converter stations and over 1100km of subsea cable.
Soben provided strategic advice to our client in support of the procurement of billion-pound works packages. Soben’s services included driving the market engagement with tier 1 civils contractors and manufacturers of converters and cables.
On average the UK consumes 4GW of electricity a day. Our client’s project is expected to see 2GW of electricity being produced by windfarm energy. Northern weather conditions are optimal for this type of project. Alongside the installation of the sub-sea cable, and the converter station required to transfer the energy, a standard 275kV substation will also be needed to change a 400kV substation, enabling efficient energy conversion.
Soben played a key role in developing the plan for how this project would be conducted. Our main objective was to ensure all appointed suppliers had the experience and capacity to meet the client’s exacting standards. By onboarding all suppliers as early as possible we ensured all stakeholders could fulfil their duties and help drive this critical UK infrastructure project to success.
