Joy Albert shared thisCelebrating Netflix's 10 years in South Korea with the creators behind our past and future hits at "Netflix Janchi” in Seoul, the numbers tell a story of a shift in global entertainment: 👀 80%+ of our members globally have watched Korean titles 🕒 12 billion viewing hours generated by Korean productions in the past year alone (that's equivalent to 1.4 million people watching Korean content non-stop, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year!) 🇰🇷 #1 non-English category worldwide, second only to to U.S. content by country of origin. As Ted Sarandos said: “Ten years ago, we dreamed big, but none of us could have imagined that Korean stories would move hearts around the world, and land right at the center of global culture. For Netflix, Korea is [...] where we discovered new possibilities, and where we learned how far a story can travel." The Hollywood Reporter dives in here: https://lnkd.in/gfZjEGps

Joy Albert shared thisAt the heart of traditional Korean art is the Sipjangsaeng - ten beautiful, timeless symbols wishing for good health, youth, and long life. To mark 10 years of Netflix in Korea, we borrowed that same tradition and retold it, this time with symbols from some of our most beloved stories. Even if you're not from Korea, I bet you'll recognize a few (all?) of these icons that mark a decade of Korean storytelling reaching the world. Take a moment to look. How many stories can you find?

Joy Albert shared thisAn incredible week in India, celebrating Netflix's 10 years here with the launch of a huge new title - Operation Safed Sagar, and with co-CEO Ted Sarandos highlighting the real impact that over 200 Netflix original productions have had on the country's creative economy. A single production like Operation Safed Sagar creates over 4,000 jobs and brings together 1,200 VFX artists to build sequences at world-class scale. Beyond the numbers, the real story is about the individual craftspeople whose skill and heritage are not only celebrated at home, but showcased to a global audience. And we look forward to deepening our investment in India's entertainment ecosystem with the Netflix India Storytelling Initiative, to train the next generation of creative talent, from animation to VFX. Congratulations to Shweta Poojari, Anusha Shenoy, Ritika Jain and Palash Soni for bringing the Netflix effect to life at mega scale last week!

Joy Albert shared thisAt Media Partners Asia' APOS Summit this week we're celebrating 10 years since Netflix went truly global and 10 years of partnership with every part of Asia’s entertainment industry. I love how real the impact of this partnership is: 🎬 300+ local production companies partnered with across Asia-Pacific 📍 650+ locations brought to life on screen, powered by local talent and businesses. Together, we've told deeply local stories that are finding fans everywhere: 🇯🇵 Japanese anime is watched by more than half (!) of Netflix members globally 🇮🇳 Indian films have appeared in Netflix’s Global Top 10 every week since the beginning of 2024 🌏 Films from Thailand and Indonesia regularly capture the global #1 spot, alongside surging momentum for Chinese-language content like Pursuit of Jade ...IYKYK! The result is that titles from #Asia now make up over 50% of Netflix’s weekly Global Top 10 non-English list (up from 30% in 2021). What's more -- total viewing hours for Asian content have grown 4x since 2019. 🚀 Can't wait to see what the next 10 years bring! Huge congrats to the whole crew that brought this moment to life Jeff McBride, Ruben Hattari, Shangari Kiruppalini, Shawn Yang, Ryan Rahardjo, Tania Tulen and many more!

Joy Albert shared thisBeyond promoting a great new title, The Evil Lawyer, this story highlights one of Netflix's real superpowers: having people on the ground — in this case the Thai team led by Malobika Banerji — who deeply understand local culture and capture a country's unique essence in ways that captivate audiences worldwide. Joy Albert shared thisOne way Netflix champions Asian storytelling is by investing in the tools that power it. This week in Tokyo, our co-CEO Greg Peters spoke with Nikkei Asia about how we're putting purpose-built technology in the hands of storytellers to simplify the production process, while keeping human artistry at the heart of everything we do. Early in my career Lisa Poulson put me on a plane to Singapore for almost two years supporting HP and our local clients. Nearly 15 years later I jumped on another plane to Singapore - this time to showcase the powerful collaborations between the country's health and academic institutions with Google. Getting to see Michael Howell, MD MPH and Yossi Matias discuss the latest chapter in Google's work in Singapore across Research and Health was an exciting full-circle moment for me! For Netflix, the future is a slate of emerging and experienced talent, and the next generation of world class talent is already on its way through our partnerships with Australian Film Television and Radio School, National Institute of Dramatic Art, Bus Stop Films, our on-set attachment programs and most recent screen writing initiative, The Next Brilliant Career. Joy Albert liked thisJoy Albert liked this10,000 fans converged on Seoul for Netflix Korea's 10th anniversary festival over the weekend, along with our co-CEO Ted Sarandos. It was quite something to hear the screams as one Korean film star after another took to the stage. I had to stifle my own scream when a fan dressed a zombie lunged at me from behind the fried chicken stall - full marks for staying in character, but it may have taken ten years off my life. Korean shows have done more than excite fans, they've had a meaningful economic impact. Since 2016, we’ve worked with more than 80 Korean production companies, hired over 25,000 cast and crew, and supported more than 70,000 extras and day hires. And programs bring planes. Over 80% of our members have seen K-content with many of them becoming tourists in Korea: visits to the National Museum of Korea doubled in the year after K Pop Demon Hunters. We can't wait to see the impact of Possible Love, which recently won the Silver Lion at Venice. We're especially proud to support the emerging part of the Korean screen ecosystem. Earlier this month we supported the New York Korean Independent Film Festival where the five 2026 Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival award-winning short films were screened. We need to keep nurturing emerging talent, so I am especially excited that for the past three years, under the leadership of Don Kang, more than a third of our Korean titles have come from first-time writers or directors. None of this happens without a decade of partnership with local creators and production companies, and the strong partnership with the Korean Government including the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, KOREA CREATIVE CONTENT AGENCY and KoBiz (Korean Film Council). Joy Albert liked thisJoy Albert liked thisDuring the awards interview, I was asked, "What does this award mean to you?", "Which woman leader inspires you?". I couldn't really answer that evening there were too many answers to these 2 questions. Went home to think about it. When I was asked to submit the entry, I rejected it twice cos I didn't feel I was ready or I'm worth such an award compared to the other women who got the award before. I'm truly truly grateful to be recognised by the fellow judges. What this mean to me, I guess I should not self doubt and to now being able to share with others that maybe we're worth more than what we see ourselves in the mirror. I have so many women who inspired me and hence it wasn't just a sentence I can answer. My husband told me the night before, "actually you have been very blessed to always meet so many good people who's been with you since day 1". Leaders who inspired me as a young events manager a decade ago and now still, Simon Kahn Sapna Chadha Shaifali Gurnani Nathan Joanna Flint Jaideep Jhangiani Michael Yue Mike Jittivanich, how I should present myself as a team manager, what are details are needed to manage executives and how important to be present when the team is in need. Then I have met women/ men leaders along the way that taught me about the industry, Huey Hong Ong Adeline Lim Patricia Cheong, DES Dylan Sharma Richard Ireland Sukumar Verma Chi Chuan Poh that now I'm more confident to speak for our MICE industry. However without that one benefactor Derek Callow who believed in me at age 26 to start the agency and he supported, checked-in, referred people to our agency the last 16 years. Thank you and forever grateful for that push. Of course all my clients (too many in LinkedIn connection) to say my big thank you. The award is a heavy weight (literally it was heavy), but I'll grow stronger to be able to continue carrying this award and lead the agency to greater heights.

Judgment is the word I keep hearing communications practitioners reach for as AI gets better. It is becoming the tether the profession is leaning on, without being able to say precisely what it means in practice. I tried to pin it down in a piece published in Campaign Asia-Pacific. The definition, once you get specific, is more demanding than most functions are currently built to meet. Thank you to Robert Sawatzky for the platform and the edit. https://lnkd.in/gX-KRcS7

As a parent of three young kids, non-urban destinations have become our default for family vacations, and short-term rentals are often the most economically viable and enjoyable way to travel. They offer us the space, flexibility, and amenities (laundry laundry laundry!) to spend quality time together, especially if we are traveling with friends and family. The ability to just hang out under one roof, slow down, and just BE, without the pressure to be on the go, is gold. ❤️ Yuling Kok Sharmaine Tan for pulling this report together.
