Summer Fun Is Back in Pickaway County

Summer in Pickaway County brings longer evenings, familiar faces, and more reasons to get out and enjoy the community. From live music to local events, the season is all about slowing down, gathering together, and making the most of warm nights close to home.

One of the highlights returning this season is Boogie on the Blacktop, a popular outdoor concert series hosted by the Circleville Eagles #685 in downtown Circleville. Held on select dates from late May through September, the series offers multiple opportunities to enjoy live music in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

Each Boogie on the Blacktop concert features a different band and an easygoing outdoor atmosphere. Gates open at 6:00 PM, with live music from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, settle in for the evening, and enjoy live entertainment in the heart of Pickaway County. Admission is $5 per person, children under 11 are free, and all events are open to the public. Guests 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Outside food and drinks are not permitted.

This season’s lineup includes Rockhouse on May 30, Trailer Park Boys on June 27, Dan Orr Project on July 18, Radio City on August 29, and Gypsy Kyngs on September 26. 7 Mile Bluegrass Brings New Single and Live Show to Zwicker House March 14

Circleville music fans have a date to mark on their calendars. 7 Mile Bluegrass will perform live at Zwicker House from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Saturday, March 14, in celebration of their new single release. Tickets are available now on Eventbrite.

The band’s newest track, I’ve Got Them Blues, was inspired by a real-life conversation and carries personal meaning for lead singer and songwriter Billy Self.

“The story stuck with me, and I introduced it to the band. We all felt like it was something we needed to record,” Billy said. The show will feature the new single and several original songs, including contributions from bandmate Jason Cochenour that have not been recorded before.

Billy chose Zwicker House as the venue after a conversation with longtime friend and supporter Steve Cook. When the chance came to perform at the downtown music and event space, the band decided it was the perfect place to debut the new track, combining the release with a live experience for fans.

The March 14 performance will also include information about the 2026 7 Mile Bluegrass Festival, returning to Pickaway County this July. The annual festival continues to grow and draws music lovers to the area, benefiting local businesses and bolstering community interest in live entertainment.

“We’ve been out on the road, and Circleville feels like home for us,” Billy said. “Music nights like this bring people together, and we’re excited to share this new chapter with our neighbors and supporters.”

From February 6–14, we’re hosting a Coffee Trail Crawl — a short, two-week push that gives participants a fun reason to finish checking in at local coffee shops during the winter season.

What’s the Coffee Trail Crawl?

The Coffee Trail itself is ongoing and can be completed anytime. The crawl is simply a limited-time window that adds a small incentive for those who finish the trail during these dates.

If you complete the Coffee Trail between February 6–14, you’ll be directed in the app to a designated prize location to receive a crawl-exclusive thank-you item, while supplies last.

How It Works

  • Check in through the app as you go

  • Complete the trail during the crawl dates

That’s it — no rush, no pressure.

Located along Crites Road in Circleville, the Gregg-Crites Octagon House is one of Pickaway County’s most distinctive historic landmarks. Built in the mid-1800s, this rare eight-sided home reflects a fascinating chapter in American architecture and a powerful story of community preservation.

A Unique Part of Pickaway County’s Story

The Gregg-Crites Octagon House is believed to have been constructed around 1855–1856, during a brief period when octagon-style homes gained popularity across the United States. These structures were designed to emphasize natural light, airflow, and efficient use of space.

Inside, the home originally featured a central free-standing spiral staircase, with rooms arranged like slices of a pie. Each room connected directly to the next, allowing easy movement throughout the house without traditional hallways. The interior included detailed oak and pine woodwork that highlighted the craftsmanship of the era.

Some historians believe the octagonal design may have been inspired by Circleville’s original circular town layout, which once featured an octagonal courthouse at its center — making the home a unique reflection of the community’s early identity.

Saved by the Community

In the early 2000s, the Octagon House faced possible demolition as surrounding land was redeveloped. In response, local residents organized to protect the structure, forming the Roundtown Conservancy, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the home.

In 2004, the house was carefully lifted, transported, and relocated to its current site along Crites Road, where it was placed on a new foundation. This extraordinary effort ensured the building’s survival and preserved it as part of Pickaway County’s historic landscape.

National Recognition

In 2021, the Gregg-Crites Octagon House was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its architectural and historical significance at the national level. This designation affirms the importance of preserving the home and supports ongoing restoration efforts through potential preservation incentives and grants.
