Chris Dzikiti, Interim Chief Inspector of Healthcare, explores what our national inspection programme found in relation to healthcare inequalities, focusing on issues relating to race and ethnicity. He is joined by guests Paulette Lewis MBE, midwife, non-executive director, and President of the Caribbean Nurses and Midwives Association (UK), Benash Nazmeen, Assistant Professor of Midwifery, CQC specialist advisor, and Researcher and Director and Co-Founder of the Association of South Asian Midwives, and Nandi Simpson, Director: Implementation at the NHS Race and Health Observatory. Together, they discuss actions we can all take to creating a safe, inclusive workplace; the importance of capturing ethnicity data; and how we can facilitate positive change. In this episode, we reflect on our recent reports into oral health in care homes. We published 'Smiling matters: oral health care in care homes' in 2019, and followed up with a progress report in 2023. Reflecting on the findings of the reports, our guests discuss the importance of oral health; explore ways to improve the experience for people living in care homes; and talk through ways of creating better connections between dental professionals, commissioners, and care homes.
