What players are trying to predict

The action in roulette unfolds through a series of straightforward phases. Betting opens at the start of the round, giving players time to place chips on their chosen outcomes. The wheel is then spun, the result is confirmed, and successful wagers receive payouts before the next round starts.
At the start of a round, players place chips on the betting layout in front of them. The table contains all numbers from 0 to 36, together with additional betting sections. A chip placed directly on a number means the player is betting on that exact result. Chips can also be placed between numbers or across lines to cover multiple outcomes at once.
Many players combine several bet types during the same round. For example, a player may place a larger bet on black while also covering a smaller section such as a corner or split bet. This allows them to balance lower-risk bets with higher-paying ones.

Once all bets are placed, the croupier announces that betting is closed. After this point, no additional chips can be added to the table. The croupier spins the wheel in one direction and releases the ball in the opposite direction.
From that moment onward, players simply wait for the outcome. If the spin is interrupted for any reason, the round may be cancelled and all bets returned.
As the wheel slows down, the ball eventually settles into one of the numbered pockets. The croupier announces both the winning number and its colour. This marks the beginning of the payout stage.
Winning bets are paid according to their payout ratios. A straight-up bet pays 35:1, meaning a RM10 winning bet returns RM360 in total, including the original stake.

When several bets are active at the same time, each one is calculated separately before the total payout is added together.
Once payouts are completed, the round officially ends. The croupier clears the table and opens betting for the next spin. Players may continue playing for as many rounds as they want or leave the table whenever they choose.
Every spin is independent from the previous one. Past outcomes do not influence future results, even if certain numbers or colours appear repeatedly over a short period.
There are three main types of roulette: European, American, and French. The gameplay is mostly the same, but there are small differences in the wheel structure and additional rules.
Some roulette games include special rules that slightly change how losses are handled.
Players may encounter La Partage on French roulette tables. The rule returns half of an even-money stake when zero appears, reducing the overall house edge to 1.35%.
En Prison is another rule linked to French roulette. After zero lands, the even-money wager is carried into the next spin instead of being removed. This lowers the house edge to 1.35% on qualifying bets.
Some American roulette versions feature Surrender on even-money wagers. If zero or double zero lands, players lose only half of the original bet, reducing the house edge to 2.63%.
The zero pocket, and the double zero in American roulette, sits outside the standard betting groups used on the table. Because of that extra outcome, the odds are always tilted slightly in the casino’s favour over long-term play. For example, European roulette carries a house edge of 2.7%.
Every bet in roulette comes with a fixed payout. To work out the total return, multiply the stake by the payout odds and then add the original bet back in. For example, a winning RM10 Straight-up bet pays RM350 in profit plus the original RM10 stake.
RTP stands for Return to Player. It describes the percentage of wagered money a game is expected to return over time. A roulette game with 97.3% RTP would theoretically return around RM97.30 for every RM100 wagered across long-term play.
French roulette is generally viewed as the most favourable because of additional rules that can reduce losses on certain bets. European roulette is also popular because it uses only one zero pocket, unlike American roulette.
Players use these terms to describe recent results. Numbers that appear repeatedly over a short period are often called “hot,” while numbers that have not shown up for many spins are described as “cold.” These patterns do not influence future outcomes.
Even-money bets pay 1:1. Common examples include red/black, odd/even, and high/low bets. These wagers cover broad sections of the table, so they land more often than narrower bets.
A bet on zero works the same way as any other Straight-up bet on a single number. Even though zero is green and sits outside the usual groups, it still pays 35:1 if it wins.
