Current Actions (4)

Add Comprehensive Oral Health to Medicare

Now is the most critical time to let your U.S. senators know how vital it is to cover dental, vision, and hearing care in Medicare. This coverage is widely supported among voters across the political spectrum – especially dental care. A recent Morning Consult/Politico poll asked voters if they support the proposed health care measures presently being considered by Congress. The most popular of the proposals was adding dental, vision and hearing coverage to Medicare, with backing from 84 percent of voters. (89% Dems and 79% of Republicans).

  • Let your elected officials know that you support this coverage too!

Improve Traditional Medicare Now

Congress and the Administration are currently debating how to improve health coverage and care. Make sure that Medicare is part of that discussion.

Improve traditional Medicare before expanding the program. These steps must come first:

  • Control private Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Costs
  • Add an Out of Pocket Cap
  • Add an Oral Health Benefit
  • Add Audiology and Vision Benefits
  • Improve Affordability, including by Strengthening Low-Income Protections
  • Expand Rights to Purchase Medigap Policies

Contact your member of Congress and Senators and tell them to take these steps to Improve Medicare Now!

We Need Your Stories

Tell the New Administration Why Our National Healthcare Programs Matter

What have these programs meant to you?  If you could, what would you like to tell policy-makers about your experiences with Medicare, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act? How have they helped you? How would you be harmed if they were taken away?

  • Tell your stories today at https://www.esurveyspro.com/s/390566/Share-Your-Healthcare-Story

Do you have an Improvement Standard Story?

Under the Jimmo Settlement Agreement, the Center for Medicare Advocacy and Vermont Legal Aid will be monitoring compliance with the terms of the settlement. We want to hear from you. Pleasekeep us informed of your experiences, both positive and negative.

Do You Have an Observation Status Story?

We need to show CMS that this problem affects thousands of people across the country, so in partnership with the John A. Hartford Foundation, we are collecting stories from the people who have been directly impacted. We hope to get at least a few stories from every state.

If you’ve been impacted by the use of “outpatient” Observation Status directly, or know someone who has, please take a few moments to submit your story at https://www.medicareadvocacy.org/submit-your-observation-status-story.

Then tell CMS that they created the problem of Observation Status, and they can fix it – Sign our Petition, below.

A federal nursing home staffing rule experts say could save 13,000 lives a year has been repealed.

“It injects some of the worst of Medicare Advantage into traditional Medicare,” said David Lipschutz, Center for Medicare Advocacy's co-director.

Medicare Advantage plans are projected to be overpaid by $76 BILLION in 2026, largely due to upcoding practices that inflate diagnoses.

That’s taxpayer money that should strengthen Medicare, not boost insurer profits.

Caregivers are already stretched thin. Now, a federal nursing home staffing rule designed to improve care has been repealed.

Our own David Lipschutz weighed in on this big step backwards.
