Sandipan Roy, CIO , Motilal Oswal Private Wealth outlined a disciplined asset allocation approach for a market transitioning from excess to normalisation. With volatility at historic lows despite rising global risks, the framework balances growth and stability, anchored by a potential earnings recovery led by banks, selective exposure to China and commodities, and attractive duration opportunities in government bonds. India’s equity markets are flashing a contrarian recovery signal. A recent Economic Times interaction with Siddharth Vora (Head, Quantitative Investment Strategies, PL Asset Management) highlights why the setup is turning constructive: macro stability is improving, earnings appear to be bottoming, and India’s multi-decade underperformance vs global peers can create conditions for mean reversion. What this really means is simple: if the cycle turns, leadership may come from areas that typically benefit first as growth and confidence return. The thesis leans toward largecaps and midcaps, with a clear preference for cyclicals and specific tilts toward metals, PSU banks, and energy. For investors and allocators, the takeaway is not to chase noise, but to stay anchored to asset allocation, valuation discipline, and risk management while tracking where earnings momentum is actually improving. #PLCapital #IndianStockMarket #EquityMarkets #MarketOutlook #Investing #WealthManagement #PortfolioStrategy #AssetAllocation #RiskManagement #LargeCaps #MidCaps #Cyclical https://lnkd.in/gytYtmRn

This is an interesting approach to incentivize use of longer dated derivatives. In reality, margin requirements should ultimately reflect risk rather than market structure priorities. Longer-dated contracts can serve genuine hedging and investment purposes very differently from short-dated speculative trading. A better approach might be to think about the MTM requirements. Margin is supposed to cover the risk of price movement in case the MTM is not paid and the trade has to be reversed. Another way to think is should margin requirement change as the margin gets closer to expiry (time to expiry).
