While most of edtech is focused on classes 11 to 12 and competitive exams where the money is, we are building for the segment that will truly lay the foundation for India’s future: classes 1 to 5. If children at this stage become literate and confident, they can drive societal change and empowerment. In our Nipun app, we are interweaving AI systems, and we are already seeing teacher hours decrease significantly while their output has increased manifold. During a recent ground visit to a school, we noticed a peculiar challenge: younger students create a lot of background noise, which our AI system was not handling well. As a result, the first words of students’ responses during assessments were often cut off. To fix this, we added a simple 3 second gap before every assessment, giving students time to settle and ensuring their first words are captured. We are also building a noise reducer, leveraging open source libraries, to further minimize background noise and make the assessments more reliable. 77% of edtech failures in a decade happened in just 4 years. Turns out, Gen Z doesn't learn like it's 90s. 1.5 million engineers graduate in India every year, but only 10% find relevant work, while the rest struggle to get hired or end up in roles they're overqualified for. Meanwhile, companies face a 60-73% talent shortage in AI, ML, and data science as they can’t find the right candidates. Mass unemployment meets mass shortage, and the gap is in skills. So what's broken? The people building skilling solutions don't understand the people they're building for. Most skilling companies are led by people who graduated 20-30 years ago. They design learning the way it worked in the 90s - long lectures, memorisation, and preferring degrees over skills, but Gen Z doesn't learn that way. - 59-60% of Gen Z prefer YouTube as a learning tool - 43% want fully self-directed learning. They need quick, visual, outcome-driven content; instead, they're getting curricula 3-5 years behind the industry, one of the reasons why 2,148 startups shut operations in the past five years. Meanwhile, the market has shifted. GCCs are hiring 80,000 - 100,000 freshers a year, while traditional IT laid off 70,000+. The jobs didn't disappear; they moved. GCCs want young, digitally fluent, adaptable talent, but traditional players can't deliver that authenticity. This is exactly the gap we saw at Futurense Technologies, and we decided to fix it with industry-led curriculum, IIT-backed online degrees, and training aligned to reality, not outdated syllabi. A 25-year-old founder building for 25-year-old engineers sees friction points that older founders haven't lived in decades. We understand the motivation, the fear, the financial pressure, because we are the demographic. GCCs see that authenticity, and our placement rates prove it works. When we started Futurense, we realised incumbents don't understand digital or the youth, and that became our edge: product intuition from lived experience is impossible to copy. So, if you're an engineer stuck in this gap, or a company struggling to find real talent, we should talk.
