Players looking to complete all the achievements might have seen two enemies they need to find and defeat: King Gil Snapper and Metal Gigantuar.

While it is possible to get lucky and find them in certain areas, there is actually an easier way to find and farm both enemies as much as you want.

They are located on a tiny island in the Kingdom of Pharm, to the east of the southern tip of the main continent. If you go there in your airship, you will notice that there is no place to land. There is even a sparkling item and cave to let you know it is possible to go there. That is because you can only get there by going through the Dragon's Maw dungeon.

Getting Through Dragon's Maw

Dragon's Maw is a level 55 dungeon that is available once you reach Chapter 5 and can fly in your airship. It is on the southern tip of the main continent of the Kingdom of Pharm.

You can't just run through the dungeon and out the other side to reach King Gil Snapper and Metal Gigantuar because there are a few barriers that will stop you.

First, you cannot run away from any enemies in the Dragon's Maw dungeon. Smoke bombs and Lid's Mechabo Escape will also not work. This means you will have to travel through the entire dungeon without skipping a single fight. You also will not be able to rest anywhere between save points, so you'll need plenty of HP and MP recovery items.

Shortly after entering the dungeon and heading past the first save spot, you will encounter a dragon boss. You must defeat this to gain access to the first part of the dungeon.

Once you go through some more of the dungeon, you will encounter another gatekeeper boss. This time it is a magitech weapon enemy. Once you defeat the boss, the rest of the dungeon is open to you.

You will still need to travel through the final area of the dungeon and defeat any encounters that come your way. You may need to defeat the gatekeeper bosses, then leave to heal and stock up on more recovery items, then come back to finish the rest of the dungeon.

When you finally reach the second save point, you will be able to exit, as well as teleport back to the entrance. This will allow you to come and go as you please in case you want to stop farming in the next area. There are also several great items to find in the Dragon's Maw dungeon, so take this time to freely explore and find them all.

Once you exit the cave, you will be on that tiny island mentioned earlier. Every encounter in that location will be a King Gil Snapper, a Gigantuar, or a Metal Gigantuar.

King Gil Snapper Info

The King Gil Snapper is around level 50 and gives a ton of gil for defeating it. It is not a pushover, however, because it has some special traits you should be aware of:

  • It counterattacks any physical hit.
  • Has a high magic defense.
  • It is weak to Ice, immune to Light, and absorbs all other elements except Dark.

This makes it difficult to use either type of attack. You can use Rain, or someone else with high HP, as a tank and use Multi-Cover to deal with the counterattacks.

Lasswell and Nichol are also helpful for this fight.

  • Lasswell has very strong Ice attacks, high crit, and can stagger quickly.
  • Nichol can use his Formations to further boost your team's damage output, and provide protection and healing with a vision like Leah, Y'shtola, or Ayaka.

Once you get to a high enough level, the high magic defense won't matter as much, but it can be good to have a mix of physical and magic attacks.

You can also use Lid's Mechabo Scan to add another elemental weakness.

Metal Gigantuar Info

The Metal Gigantuar is also around level 50, but it gives a ton of experience instead of Gil. It has very low HP, but some traits that make it hard to defeat.

  • Extremely Durable - Hits will do very low damage.
  • High evasion, so most attacks will miss.

Since all attacks will do such little damage, the strength of your characters won't matter. Instead, you want to focus on as many multi-hit attacks as possible.

You can get the Amelia Vision for the Aim ability. This guarantees all attacks hit for 5 turns. The best way to defeat Metal Gigantuar is getting Aim for Jake. Use Aim, then Gamble Shot. This ability hits several times and Aim means each one will hit. It will only take you a turn or two to defeat Metal Gigantuar this way.

If you are high enough for the spell Meteor, it is one of the best spells to use because it hits multiple times. If you cast Meteor with Dualcast from the Shantotto Vision, you can get 8 hits.

By grinding both the King Gil Snapper and the Metal Gigantuar, you can be fully prepared for whatever Final Fantasy Resonance throws at you.
