Skyrim is the fifth major game in the Elder Scrolls series. Considered one of the greatest games ever made, it has been released on several generations of consoles. Since its initial release over a decade ago, Skyrim has become one of the bestselling video games of all time.

We're coming up on 15 years since Skyrim, and nearly a decade now since the next mainline game was officially announced. The Elder Scrolls fans will remember that trailer: a short, rolling shot of what seemed to be the setting for the game’s next rugged adventure—unfortunately, that's all that Bethesda has graced us with up until even now. Don't get me wrong, I've thoroughly enjoyed the direction the franchise has taken with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, but I've also never felt like Nintendo needed to abandon its older formula entirely. In fact, as much as I love open-world games, I'm glad the company is preserving so much of what made Ocarina of Time special in the first place, because I think there's still plenty of room for that kind of experience in modern gaming.

New Skyrim Mod Just Raised the Bar for The Elder Scrolls 6

Jane Vincent

Games

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls 6

The Elder Scrolls

Bethesda

PC

PlayStation 5

PlayStation

Xbox Series X

Xbox Series S

Xbox

I personally really enjoyed the vampire-hunting conflict of Fort Dawnguard, as well as the mysterious shores of Solstheim, which held that Morrowind nostalgia with its stronger Dunmer influence.
