Skyrim is easily one of the biggest and most popular games ever made. The title is full to the brim with content across the board, with the vanilla game in itself taking players hundreds of hours to complete. Of course, it would be impossible to talk about the draws of Skyrim without mentioning the amazing modding community that has consistently been delivering excellent fan-made content that makes Skyrim even more of a joy to play through.
Every mechanic of Skyrim has been experimented upon with mods to the point where most people find it downright impossible to play the base version of this game. The romance mechanics are another aspect of Skyrim that has been tweaked heavily to great effect. Players who want to see just how modders have played around with the romance aspect of this game can find some of the best romance mods for Skyrim after doing a bit of research.
Updated April 13, 2026, by Mark Sammut: We have added a couple more mods to this article, while also double-checking the existing ones to make sure they still work (that said, I always recommend checking the comments to see if there are any recent issues).

1 NPC Appearance Overhaul
Give Nearly Every NPC A Makeover
- Creator: DylanJames
- Markath, Stormcloak, Whiterun
While they don't look terrible for the game's age, Skyrim's NPCs can be a bit bland, a side effect of the sheer volume of characters that populate this world. There are hundreds of visual mods that clean up every aspect of the game, and NPCs are commonly targeted since they play such a crucial role in defining Skyrim's immersion. This series of mods is particularly noteworthy due to the sheer volume of makeovers, covering dozens of characters found in different regions. Naturally, this includes romanceable NPCs.
The creator's preferences play a role, naturally, but the goal of these mods is to modify each character's appearance to better reflect their lore, affiliations, and backstories. Some of them are also given unique identifiers to help them stand out from the crowd, making them more memorable in the process.
2 Shieldmaidens of Skyrim - Follower Pack
Three New Companions Await
- Creator: Socalista and megaman2k
- Credit for screenshot: SerketHeyt
- Download Link
A fairly simple release that serves as a representative for the standard NPC mod, Shieldmaidens of Skyrim does exactly what it advertises. Installing this mod adds three new characters to Skyrim: Brynhild, Catrice, and Sebinna. They all have unique backstories and are found in different locations, and they each have 224 idle comments. They can all be taken as followers and then married, if that's the direction the Dragonborn wants to go in.
This mod's followers use the player's installed bodies and skins rather than adding custom ones, which allows the file to be way smaller than usual. If you are just looking to test out some follower and romance mods, this is a decent place to start, as it is quite straightforward.
3 Legend Of The Blue Dragon
More Than Just Romance
- Creator: TheSpunkyBreton
- Download Link
A mod featuring a great questline that kicks off after the death of Alduin, Legend of the Blue Dragon is a great way to add more content to the post-game of Skyrim. Of course, the two romances that come packaged in the mix are also quite engaging in their own right.
This story-driven mod is surprisingly riveting and will keep players engaged to the very end. It helps that all the new characters added in this mod are also quite interesting as well.
4 Ashe - Crystal Heart
A Breton Follower With A Fully-Developed Questline
- Creator: Martimius
- Download Link
- For Additional Mods, Visit: GGMods.com
Ashe - Crystal Heart adds a female Breton follower with tons of lines of custom dialogue that's not just there for the sake of it, but for adding more context and three-dimensionality to the character. The biggest strength of this mod is that Ashe doesn't feel like a lifeless companion going through the motions and helping in battle. Her relationship with the player evolves over the course of their time together, with features like training, blacksmithing services, custom outfits, and reactive commentary.
Similarly, advancing the relationship between the Dragonborn and Ashe from a transactional one to something more romantic will take time and effort on the part of the player. The choice system feels more like a Bioware approval/disapproval system than the standard Skyrim fare. Ashe also fits in perfectly in ultra-modded Skyrim playthroughs owing to her HD textures and HDT physics compatibility.
5 Anna’s NPCs
One Of Skyrim's Biggest Romance Mods
- Creator: Anduniel and Shrike
- Download Link
Anna's NPCs is easily one of the biggest and most notable mods on this list. The sheer amount of content it adds to Skyrim adds hours of playability that will keep players very happy indeed.
This mod adds a whopping ten followers that have unique voice lines and character arcs of their own. Exploring all these arcs is bound to be a treat, and the player would certainly appreciate that their avenues of romance are expanded considerably with this mod.
6 Lyssia (fully voiced follower and quest)
Wisdom And Humor Wrapped In A Mage
- Creator: AlmightySE
- Download Link

A common pitfall many follower mods fall into is that while the voice lines are often custom, often voiced by the mod authors themselves, their amateur roots shine through. Not to take away the accomplishments and painstaking effort that goes into creating a fully-fledged follower, but that is the case for almost all follower mods on the Nexus. Lysssia doesn't have that problem. The voice acting feels extremely professional, breathing life and care into the character, resulting in one of the most memorable first meetings with a potential love interest in all of Skyrim. On top of that, Lyssia has excellent writing, a compelling storyline accompanied by a sprawling quest, a brash nature and a heart of gold; all qualities to look for in a romantic partner in Skyrim. And if that wasn't enough, Lyssia has tons of unique features like being able to explore an area without the player's input, the ability to narrate entire books, and interactions with the other residents of Skyrim as she comes across them alongside the Dragonborn.
7 Bishop - A Skyrim Romance Mod
Neverwinter Romance Nights
- Creator: Mara
- Download Link
Fans of Neverwinter Nights 2 will be happy to know that there's a Skyrim romance mod featuring characters from that classic. Skyrim Romance is one of the more impressive romance mods for Skyrim and a must-have for fans who want more fleshed-out and entertaining romances in this game.
The writing might be questionable at times, but Skyrim Romance is still an impressive mod that deserves all the praise it can get. The 30+ hours of gameplay and the integration of more than a hundred NPCs would be enough to draw fans toward this stellar mod.
8 Remiel-Custom Voiced Dwemer Specialist And Companion
A New Skyrim Partner With 5K Lines Of Dialogue
- Creator: Maplespice
- Download Link
- For Additional Mods, Visit: GGMods.com
There are many companion mods for Skyrim that players can download to experience some well-made custom content. However, this can be hard to find, and there's nothing more immersion-breaking than reading through walls of text in a game that requires voiced talent to immerse players.
Remiel is a companion mod that feels right at home in Skyrim. This Breton engineer brings a customized Dwemer follower with her into battle, and her dialogue is well-written. Suffice it to say, most players wouldn't mind romancing her when their bond is high enough.
9 To Have And To Hold
Marry, Divorce, And Marry Again
- Creator: joeThinkStudios
- Download Link
Marriage isn't all that fleshed out in Skyrim, with a single favor being enough to woo most women into falling for the Dragonborn. It can be rather silly, but the act of having a family in the game is still pretty great in its own right. However, some players would love to have multiple families in various settlements all over Skyrim, which may not align with the concept of monogamy itself, but is still something that fans may be interested in if they don't want to choose from one of the many eligible marriage candidates in the game.
With the To Have and To Hold mod, players can have a total of 11 marriage partners in the game, which can certainly make for an interesting development. Of course, polygamy is an abhorrent tradition that should never be practiced in real life, but some players who want to mess about in Skyrim without taking this practice seriously may find this mod to be worth experimenting with.
10 Caesia Follower - Borne of Magic - Revamped
A Mage With Wit And Mystery
- Creator: Miroslav Yegorov
- Download Link
There is a slew of companion mods that players can download to enhance their enjoyment of Skyrim. This can make it slightly hard to choose from one of the many mods that allow players to hang out with these custom companions.
Caesia is one such follower who can make Skyrim more memorable. This cocky and witty companion might not give off the greatest first impression, but players who decide to give her a chance will find themselves enjoying one of the deeper romances.
