Gold Mining Sub Dredge With EDDY Pump Technology

Underwater gold mining, for a long time, has been a very labor-intensive and often low-yielding process. Divers are often put into freezing cold and often dangerous waters in order to pump gold rich sands to make their fortunes.

Currently, the biggest issues in regards to gold dredging stem from the ability to operate at depths of greater than 25 feet, the dependency on divers, and the inefficiency of most dredge pumps.

Recently, EDDY Pump Corporation out of El Cajon, CA was asked to come out to Nome, Alaska in order to showcase its gold mining solution on one of the most-watched shows on the Discovery Channel, Bering Sea Gold.

EDDY Pump stepped up to the challenge by sending out the Subdredge. This remote-operated submersible dredge was built for high output, underwater dredging projects, shattered all pre-existing issues and restrictions that currently plague the subsea gold mining industry.

This remote-operated dredge can operate at depths exceeding 125 feet while safely being controlled by an operator at the surface. The utilization of high-powered lights, cameras, and acoustical positioning allows the operator the ability to precisely maneuver and operate the dredge with the utmost accuracy.

The core of this design is the patented EDDY Pump technology. The EDDY Pump design redefines the pumping industry by being the only pump that utilizes the principles of a tornado to create a synchronized eddy current. This pump is not a centrifugal, positive displacement or vortex pump, but instead the most highly efficient high solids and high specific gravity pump on the market. This translates to the ability to pump higher percent solids of material without wearing down the pump and capture the heavy specific gravity gold.

With references from Bering Sea Gold, referring to it as the Golden Sea Horse Dredge, there are truly no limits for the Subdredge. After 4-weeks of operation under the 5-foot thick ice of Nome, Alaska, the Subdredge can truly be seen as the new wave of the future in underwater gold mining and has now be seen by millions on the Discovery Channel!

Dredge Project Consulting

  • Easier to install and maintain, the horizontal slurry pump, a type of dredge pump, allows for quick access to pump components, making repair jobs straightforward. During repair jobs, pumps are completely disassembled for thorough inspection. All components are carefully inspected, and any parts not meeting standards are replaced. After reassembly, the pump is tested to ensure reliable performance. These steps help extend the service life of the hydraulic pump and maintain equipment reliability. EDDY Pump can also provide dredging project managers to oversee sediment projects and remediation projects, ensuring that all aspects of the dredging project are managed efficiently and in compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Requires more room, due to its larger footprint compared to vertical
  • Implementing best management practices and evaluating management alternatives are essential for effective material management in any dredging project.

Vertical Slurry Pump

  • Less smaller footprint, allowing the dredge pump to be implemented in hard to reach jobs

  • More versatile, can be cable hung straight down and inserted directly into medium to pump target material. The vertical slurry pump can also be used in mechanical dredging operations where minimal water addition is required.

  • The vertical slurry pump is typically situated within the excavator or dredging system so that it is optimally positioned for efficient material handling and performance.

  • More difficult to repair and tougher maintenance
