Great discussion on BNPL payment methods at the FAN Network Conference 2026 in Berlin. Thanks to an excellent panel with Sabrina Flunkert, Sevda Alaca, Alessandro Serena, and Julius Zielinski, moderated by Lars Hofmann 🎯 One topic stood out clearly: Open Invoice. It remains one of the most popular payment methods across DACH and globally - and for good reason. Consumers value the flexibility it provides: ☑️ It allows customers to try products before paying. ☑️ It helps many consumers manage cash flow, especially towards the end of the month when liquidity is typically tighter. At the same time, the current discussions around the CCD2 directive could have a significant impact on all BNPL-based payment models😬 If the regulation is implemented as currently discussed and treats invoice payments like traditional credit products, the consequences could be substantial, not only for payment providers but also for consumers themselves. In the most extreme scenario, consumers could lose their most preferred payment methods. This raises an important question: Will the final regulation strike the right balance between protecting consumers from over-indebtedness and preserving the payment methods they clearly value❓ Especially considering that responsible payment providers have been conducting credit checks for nearly two decades, rejecting high-risk applications long before a transaction takes place.
