Exceptional check-in experience

Recent guests gave the check-in process a 5-star rating.
The ground floor accommodation is extremely stylishly appointed with a large, open-plan living/dining room which features Jacobean-style painted wall panelling as a stunning backdrop. Stone mullion windows, beamed ceilings, oak floors and doors lend a sense of rustic charm to the fabric of the building and yet there is every modern amenity. There is access to wooded and landscaped gardens with long-reaching views of the surrounding countryside and a private area to sit and enjoy the location.

The space
Our aim when doing up the barn was to create a real home from home, providing every comfort we could think of – from Lavazza espresso coffee machine to Neff hide & slide oven (made famous on Bake Off!) to an extremely comfy mattress and fluffy towels.

Guest access
Entire barn plus access to 3 acres of land, which includes a wooded copse.

Other things to note
The sauna is in a separate building where there is an area to lie on loungers and relax in an extremely warm, underfloor-heated environment. A cold rain shower in the same building means you can have the hot and cold experience. All this is reached easily from the barn (down a path and few steps). There is a decking around this building which affords views over the valley.

Neighborhood highlights

Hebden Bridge is a unique little town nestling in the hills between Leeds and Manchester. It has a rich industrial heritage, which can be seen from the myriad mills dotted around the steep-sided valleys. Whilst once these 19th century buildings were busy producing textiles like fustian cloth, corduroy and moleskin trousers, today they are more likely to house arty cafes and independent retailers selling all manner of interesting things. Hebden Bridge is known for exactly this – its quirky, independent shops and galleries, which quite often sell arts, crafts and food products that are made in the valley by the many talented local artists and food suppliers. From jewellers and potters to bread makers and micro-brewers, there is a real wealth of creativity to be discovered. This originality was rewarded in 2016, when Hebden deservedly won Small Market Town in the Great British High Street awards and the People’s Choice with a record-breaking 40,000 votes!
You will find something going on in the town most weeks – piano festival, folk festival, open-studios and arts festival, burlesque show, vintage car rally, handmade parade (with giant puppets). Indeed, it’s difficult to think of a time in the year when absolutely nothing is happening. Every week in Lees Yard off St. George’s square in the centre of town, there are markets, selling local food and produce, second-hand goods, arts, crafts and artisan products and in 2016, they won Britain’s Best Small Open Market.
Café Culture is alive and well in Hebden with over a dozen to choose from and there is a lively pub scene with some offering delicious pub grub and others live comedy or music acts. Eateries on offer span twelve different countries – so you could almost eat your way around the world! Cuisines range from Thai, Tibetan and Turkish to Japanese and Italian.

Our volunteer-run cinema on Burnley Rd in the centre of town is also somewhere we are particularly proud of with its comfy armchair-style seats and large china mugs of tea or coffee available. A stroll along the canal-side is another nice thing to do in Hebden, an opportunity to admire the many colourful narrow boats moored alongside or stop at the towpath café or tiny artisan shops.

The Tour de Yorkshire cycle race in May invariably comes through the town on one of its routes - this year passing right in front of our drive - and there are often cross-country runs or national fell races that wind their way through the valley.
The town and surrounding area are regularly used as locations for a number of well-known TV series, such as Happy Valley, and more recently Gentleman Jack and Last Tango in Halifax.

My wife Carolyn and I are magazine journalists - she's a writer and I'm a photographer and for over 30 years we have produced features for national and international interior magazines (titles like Home & Gardens, Country Living etc). Three years ago we semi-retired and decided to turn our barn, which has been part of our house, into a one-bedroom holiday let. We have enjoyed using our experience of interiors to refurbish and decorate the property, which has bags of character and interesting period features. It has been fun to see it develop into somewhere we hope people will appreciate and love to stay.
