Guy Monseair is the Head Coach and Executive Director at City Island Rowing in the Bronx, NY. With a background that spans diverse fields, Monseair has dedicated his professional life to coaching, emphasizing a holistic approach to athlete development. Originally from Harare, Zimbabwe, his early years were shaped by a passion for sports, particularly rugby and cricket, as well as a deep appreciation for wildlife and nature. Monseair attended Falcon College, a boarding school in Zimbabwe known for its focus on character and leadership development, and later completed his education at Scotch College in Australia, where he excelled in academics and sports.
Before his coaching career, Monseair managed several entrepreneurial ventures, including art galleries featuring contemporary Zimbabwean stone sculptures and a horticulture farm that exported exotic flowers to Europe. His transition to full-time coaching began in Zimbabwe, where he first volunteered with a rowing team. Recognizing his commitment, he shifted his focus entirely to coaching and relocated to the U.S. to continue his work.
At City Island Rowing, Monseair’s coaching philosophy emphasizes both athletic and personal growth, with a focus on resilience, teamwork, and discipline. Under his leadership, the program has grown to support a large team of athletes, many of whom have achieved national and collegiate success. Monseair’s career reflects his dedication to fostering well-rounded individuals through sport, combining his extensive athletic background with insights gained from his experiences in business and education.
