Terms & Conditions for Klarna’s Cashback Rewards Points program by Klarna

1. General

Klarna’s Cashback Rewards Program (“Cashback”, “Program”, “Cashback Program” as applicable) is offered by Klarna Inc. with an address of 800 N. High Street Columbus OH 43215 (“Klarna”, “we”, “our”) as part of Klarna Shopping Service free of charge, and subject to these Terms & Conditions (“Terms”). The present Terms govern the relationship between Klarna and any Klarna customer (“Customer”, “You”, “your”) related to earning or redeeming Klarna Cashback points based on qualifying purchases. Klarna Cashback Points (“Cashback points”, “Klarna Cashback points”) are loyalty points awarded to Eligible Customers when making qualifying purchases and/or making referrals and other incentive actions with Klarna. You can see your current Cashback points balance by going to the “Cashback Home” which is your rewards wallet in your Klarna App which displays the total number of points you have earned from eligible purchases and other promotions. 

You can access the up to date version of these Terms in the Klarna app anytime or on Klarna.com.

To see your Cashback points transaction history, you can navigate to your Cashback home within the Klarna app, found in your profile section in the Klarna app. If you have any concerns about your Cashback points not appearing in your transaction history, please contact customer service for assistance.

Cashback points are promotional loyalty credits only — they are not cash, electronic money, deposits, legal tender, or monetary entitlements and have no cash value until redeemed for cash. They can only be redeemed in accordance with these Terms and/or the rules governing your Klarna Membership (for example: as cash into your Klarna Balance, or as partner rewards such as miles, points, vouchers or other non-cash rewards we may make available to you at our sole discretion). No other redemption methods are permitted. 

Redemption of Cashback points is subject to your account being in good standing and complying with all eligibility and usage requirements (including fraud, returns, or misuse).

2. Eligibility

The Cashback Program is open only to Customers (1) who are legal residents of the United States,  (2) who have a valid billing address and (3) who have opened a Klarna balance. 

The Program is only open to natural persons acting in their personal capacity. It is not available to businesses, organizations, trusts, partnerships, government entities, or any other non-individual participants.  Additionally, the Program is not intended for individuals or businesses engaged in purchasing items through Klarna for commercial purposes. Klarna reserves the right to verify the eligibility of any participant. We may require such information as we consider reasonably necessary for this purpose. Customers eligible to participate in the Cashback Program according to these Terms are hereinafter referred to as “Eligible Customers”.

Klarna may make the Cashback Program available on a rolling or staggered basis such that not all individuals will become eligible to earn Cashback points at the same time. 

Your eligibility for the Program may be terminated by Klarna if, based on a reasonable assessment, we suspect that you are attempting to exploit, misuse, fraudulently use the Program, breach these Terms, or provide us with false or misleading information. Moreover, Klarna reserves the right to temporarily suspend, cancel, or merge accounts that exhibit signs of duplication.

Should your eligibility for the Program be terminated by Klarna in accordance with this Section 2, any pending Cashback points that remain pending and that have not been redeemed for cash or with a partner may, at our discretion acting reasonably, be rendered void.

3. Klarna App Cashback Deals

Earning Points on App Cashback Deals: 

Eligible Customers can earn Cashback points by making a purchase using the Klarna App (“App Cashback Deals”) at Participating Stores or other retailers or partners we indicate are eligible for cashback purchases. (“Participating Stores”). Each App Cashback Deal is subject to its own terms, such as redemption rates or offer validity, which are set out along with the App Cashback Deal in the Klarna app or any other Klarna web-based services, to which the program may potentially be expanded. In general, rewards will either be a percentage of the total purchase amount (excluding taxes, delivery costs and any other costs), or a fixed sum, subject to potential exclusions.  The number of Cashback points will vary with each App Cashback Deal and will be disclosed to you in the Klarna app.  “Participating Stores” refer to stores that are running an App Cashback Deal (such as stores, store networks and online sales platforms). 

Terms & Availability of App Cashback Deals:

The list of App Cashback Deals and their details are available in the Klarna app, and may be made available on other Klarna web-based services. This list will be updated regularly when new partnerships with Participating Stores are established. Klarna or a Participating Store may discontinue an App Cashback Deal immediately without notice.

Qualifying Purchases for App Cashback Deals:

Cashback points can only be accrued on purchases completed in the Klarna app or other Klarna web-based services where the Cashback Rewards Program is made available by us.

Cashback points will only be earned on the purchase from Participating Stores of products and/or services (excluding taxes, delivery costs and any other costs), which fulfill the terms and conditions set out in the App Cashback Deal details (such as the transaction taking place within the validity period), where no grounds for exclusion are applicable. These purchases need to be completed while logged in the Klarna app in a country that matches the currency of your billing address’s country (''Qualifying Purchase''). 

These Qualifying Purchases must receive approval from the Participating Store. Approval for Cashback points is not guaranteed. The Participating Store reserves the right to reject Cashback points for various reasons, including, but not limited to, the purchase being attributed to another third party.

Tracking and Data Sharing for App Cashback Deals:

When you make a purchase through App Cashback Deals, you authorize us to share data with partners, such as affiliate networks, to track your purchases on the websites of Participating Stores. These partners will obtain limited transaction and device information while providing their services to us. Our collaboration with these partners is required for us to deliver you Cashback points as per these Terms.

Cookie Requirements for App Cashback Deals:

In order for your purchase to be eligible for Cashback points, you must ensure that you have accepted cookies from Participating Stores and that no third-party services that could potentially block this process are active on your browser or operating system. This includes, but is not limited to, ad-blockers, anti-tracking software, or competing cashback or promotional toolbars or browser extensions.

Receiving Cashback on App Cashback Deals:

An App Cashback Deal purchase eligible for Cashback points generally requires up to ten (10) days to be acknowledged by the store and appear in the Cashback points transaction history list. After it's recorded and the final cashback points amount to be granted is confirmed, this sum will be transferred into your Cashback Home, adhering to the timeline mentioned in the App Cashback Deal. Please note the final Cashback points amount may be subject to adjustments in instances of order cancellation or partial returns.

3.1 Exclusions on Earning App Cashback Deals Cashback points

Cashback points earned through App Cashback Deals will be rounded down to the nearest cent. ​​No Cashback points will be granted for any part of the purchase price which does not amount to a full cent and any remaining balance will not be carried forward to subsequent transactions.

Cashback points on App Cashback Deals cannot be earned on taxes, delivery charges or any other costs, nor on payments covering interest, late fees, or payment snoozing charges. 

App Cashback Deals may not be combined with other promotional incentives from third parties, such as, for instance, other cashback services, discount codes, or coupons. These exclusions are determined by the Participating Stores. 

For the avoidance of doubt, Cashback points can be earned on a Klarna purchase where a Klarna deal is applied. 

If a Participating Store does not register a purchase due to the application of an exclusion or non-compliance with the terms and conditions laid out in the Cashback Deal details, such transactions will not qualify for Cashback points.

Additionally, there may be instances where some transactions may not result in Cashback points due to circumstances beyond our control. Such scenarios could be due to tracking issues arising from affiliate parameters, which are set by the Participating Stores. 

3.2 Participating Stores policies and restrictions for App Cashback Deals

Any products or services purchased from any Participating Stores, whether through the Klarna app or otherwise, are governed by and subject to the applicable Participating Stores’ terms and conditions, including but not limited to the applicable return, cancellation, exchange, and shipping policies. 

You agree that we are not agents of any Participating Store and that the Participating Store operates independently and not under our control. Accordingly, your purchase on App Cashback Deals, or correspondence with any Participating Stores is solely between You and that store. We do not assume any liability, obligation or responsibility for any part of such correspondence, offer or promotion, including, without limitation, the withdrawal or modification of any such App Cashback Deal. Klarna is not responsible for changes to, or discontinuance of, any Participating Stores from any of Klarna’s platforms or the termination of any Cashback Deal offered by any Participating Stores on any of Klarna’s platforms. Klarna assumes no responsibility and shall not be liable for any content, product and/or services on the Participating Stores’ platforms (including but not limited to the quality and merchantability).  If you are a Klarna Card or Klarna Credit Card cardholder, you may have certain rights with respect to purchases using your card.  See the billing rights notice that was included with your card agreement.  

4. Cashback Rewards Incentives

Cashback Rewards Incentives Promotions

From time to time, Klarna may offer Cashback rewards in the form of promotional incentives. The awarded Cashback points will be deposited into your Cashback Home in accordance with the timeline specified in the applicable promotional campaign. The terms and conditions of any such Cashback Rewards Incentive campaign or promotion will be provided to you in the Klarna app, on Klarna.com, or by any other means we may make available to you. You must satisfy all applicable terms and conditions and complete all requirements of the promotional campaign in order to earn and receive such Cashback points.

Earning Cashback Through Referrals

Eligible Customers may also earn Cashback points through Klarna’s referral program (the “Referral Program”). When a referred consumer meets the referral conditions set out in the Klarna app or on Klarna.com, the referring customer (“Advocate”) will earn Cashback points. In some cases, the referred consumer may also receive Cashback points. The number of Cashback points available, the conditions for earning them, and any limits on referral-based Cashback will be displayed in the Klarna app and may vary by promotional period. Referral Cashback points are not guaranteed and are subject to approval. Klarna reserves the right to withhold or cancel Cashback points where referral conditions are not fulfilled, where referred consumers do not qualify, or where Klarna determines, in its sole discretion, that referral invitations have been shared outside of the intended use (for example, posted publicly or used to solicit sign-ups beyond friends, family, or acquaintances). Klarna may also exclude Advocates or referred consumers with unpaid past-due balances from earning Cashback through referrals.

Referral Cashback points will appear in your Cashback history and balance once confirmed, following the timelines specified in the Klarna app.

5. Klarna Membership Cashback Rewards

Klarna Membership Plan holders that have a Klarna balance are eligible to earn Cashback points (“Klarna Membership Cashback”) on an eligible Pay in Full purchase that is paid in full at the time of purchase using funds in the Klarna balance including any Pay in Full purchase using a Klarna Card (Debit Flex) whether online or in-store.

6. Redeeming Cashback points

Redeeming Cashback points into your Klarna balance

To redeem Cashback points for a credit in your Klarna balance, you must go into the Klarna app to Cashback Home and elect to redeem your points. You will be given a choice of how many points to redeem for cash in your Klarna balance or you can redeem the full amount of points you have available for redemption.

To be an Eligible Customer to redeem Cashback points for cash in your Klarna balance, you must have an active Klarna balance. Upon completion of the election, the funds transfer may take a few business days to complete.

Once you have opened a Klarna balance, your Cashback points will automatically be redeemed to your Klarna balance as cash 90 days after accrual if you do not elect to redeem your points earlier.

Redeeming Cashback points with our partners

If you are eligible to redeem points with our partners, for example, airline miles, discounts, hotel benefits and other rewards that we make available to you at our sole discretion (currently, only if you have an active Klarna Membership), you must go in to your Cashback Home and elect which partner you would like to redeem your points with. You can select the number of points to redeem manually in the Klarna app.

You may also be given the option to auto-redeem Cashback points with a partner of your choosing.

Other redemption options for Cashback points

We may introduce alternative methods for Cashback points redemption beyond the Klarna balance and/or with Klarna’s partners. Should such changes occur, we will communicate these updates to you.

7. Cashback points corrections, expiration, forfeiture, and adjustments

Correction of errors on earned Cashback points due to returns, refunds, or order cancellation

If an order that qualified for Cashback points is later returned, cancelled, or refunded after Cashback points have been credited to your Cashback Home:

1. Points Deduction: The corresponding Cashback points will be deducted from your Cashback Home, even if that means your Cashback points balance goes into the negative.

2. Insufficient Points: If you have already redeemed some or all of the awarded Cashback points and subsequently return or cancel an order, and your Cashback Home does not hold enough points to cover the deduction, Klarna may, at its discretion:

   • Set your Cashback Home balance to a negative amount, requiring you to earn additional Cashback points before new points are accrued;

   • Reverse or cancel partner rewards (e.g., miles, points, or other benefits) obtained through the redemption of such Cashback points;

   • Suspend or terminate your ability to earn or redeem Cashback points in the future; and/or

   • Pursue any other legal or equitable remedies to recover the redeemed value.

Forfeiture and Adjustments

1. Delinquency or Misuse
   To be eligible for Cashback points, your account must remain in good standing at all times. Cashback points may be withheld, suspended, or forfeited in the event of any missed or late payment for any Klarna payment method or Klarna-branded product, referral of any such account to collections, or any other circumstance in which any such account is not considered to be in good standing. Points may also be forfeited in cases of suspected or confirmed fraud, abuse, misuse, or other violations of these Terms and Conditions.

2. Negative Balances
   In the event a Member’s Points balance becomes negative, any subsequently earned Points shall be automatically applied to offset the negative balance until such balance is restored to zero, after which additional Points may accrue and be redeemed in the ordinary course.

Cashback Points Expiration if you have a Klarna Membership

Cashback points associated with a Klarna Membership shall not expire while the membership remains active. Notwithstanding the foregoing, all unredeemed Cashback points may be immediately forfeited (i) upon closure, cancellation, or termination of the member’s Klarna account or membership, or (ii) if the member ceases to qualify for Klarna Membership at Klarna’s discretion, as described more fully in the Klarna Membership Agreement.

Cashback points expiration if you do not have a Klarna Membership

Points Expiration: If you have not opened a Klarna balance and you have Cashback points that have been confirmed and are ready for redemption on your Cashback Home, such Cashback points will expire 90 after they are confirmed in your Cashback Home. You have 90 days from the date the Cashback points become ready to be claimed to open a Klarna balance. 

Beyond this period, the right to claim the Cashback points will be forfeited. 

Qualifying Activities to Extend Expiration Date: The 90-day period can be reset by qualifying activities, such as earning new Cashback points or redeeming any amount of Cashback points or subscribing to a Klarna Membership. Returns, refunds, or order cancellations do not recommence that period, and if no qualifying activity occurs within 90 days, Cashback points shall expire as stated in this section. If a Klarna balance account is not created within such period, any unclaimed Cashback points will expire as well. 

Automatic Redemption once you open a Klarna balance: Once you have opened a Klarna balance, your Cashback points will automatically be converted into a credit to your Klarna balance at the end of any such 90 day period if you do not redeem them manually. 

Closing your Klarna balance: If you close your Klarna balance for any reason, your points will expire as described in this section also within 90 days.

Any Cashback received in your Klarna balance will be subject to the Terms and Conditions agreed upon with Klarna for that account. For terms and conditions related to your Klarna balance please refer to this link. 

8. Personal data and communications

Please read the Klarna Privacy Policy carefully to understand how Klarna collects, uses, and discloses information about customers, how to update or change your personal information, and how we communicate with You. Any personal information supplied in connection with the Program will be used, shared and retained as set out in the Privacy Policy. 

9. Our liability

We acknowledge that certain jurisdictions' laws imply terms, conditions or warranties into contracts for the supply of goods or services that cannot be excluded. 

As a consumer, you may have rights under consumer protection legislation in your country or state of residence, which cannot be excluded or limited by Klarna. These Terms do not, and do not intend to exclude or limit those statutory rights in any way. However, to the extent that is permitted by law to do so, Klarna makes no representations or warranties, express or implied, regarding the quality or suitability of the Cashback points awarded as part of the Program.  

To the extent permitted by law in any applicable jurisdiction, we and any of our officers, employees will not be liable for any loss or claim of any kind arising out of or in connection with these Terms and the Program.

We are not liable for business losses. You agree not to use the Program or any features on the App, for any commercial, business for resale purposes, and we have no liability to you for any loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity.

We are not liable for matters outside of our control. Except to the extent that liability cannot be excluded or limited as a matter of law, we accept no responsibility or liability for (a) any accounts which are created fraudulently or using incorrect or inaccurate information; (b) any technical malfunction or other failure, regardless of cause, of any devices used in any aspect of the operation of the Program; (c) inaccessibility or unavailability of any network or wireless service, the Internet and/or any website; or (d) any other matter outside of our reasonable control. 

In instances of force majeure (such as wars, natural disasters, uprisings and pandemics), which prevent the Program from being provided and executed, Klarna cannot be held liable under any circumstances. 

10. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

You agree that the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to principles of conflict of laws, will govern this Agreement and any claim or dispute that has arisen or may arise between you and Klarna, except as otherwise stated in this Agreement.

11. Program Changes and Termination

These Terms apply to every Eligible Purchase described herein. You maintain the freedom to cease your participation in the program at any time simply by discontinuing these purchases. No additional actions or procedures are necessary to terminate use of the service.

We reserve the right to modify, restrict, suspend, or otherwise change any aspect of the Program, and/or these Terms from time-to-time, including without limitation, the eligibility conditions for participation in the Program, the manner in which customers participate, the manner and rates at which Cashback points are earned and redeemed, redemption mechanisms, or what allows Cashback points to be earned, subject to required legal notice.

Insofar as Klarna makes changes to the Terms which have significant impact on you, Klarna shall notify you of such changes in advance by email to the email address then associated with your account, and/or using any other contact information we may have for you.

The Program may be suspended or terminated by Klarna for any reason. Klarna will give you prior written notice if it does suspend or terminate the Program. During any legally required notice period, you will have the opportunity to claim any Cashback points that are pending. In the case of Program termination, we will ensure sufficient time is provided for You to receive all pending Cashback points that you are entitled to, but have not yet been credited to your Klarna balance at the time of termination. 

12. Miscellaneous

There are no participation fees for participating in the Program, except for those fees associated with your Klarna Membership. 

If you breach these Terms and we choose to ignore your breach, or if we delay in taking steps against you, we will still be entitled to use our rights and remedies at a later date or in any other situation where you breach the Terms again.

Klarna is not responsible for any tax implications that may arise from you earning cashback.  You should seek independent financial advice if you want to assess the potential tax implications of earning cashback.  

In these Terms, unless the contrary intention appears:

- the singular includes the plural and vice versa;

- unless otherwise stated, all amounts include any applicable tax; and

- a reference to 'include' or 'including' means 'including but not limited to'.

If a court finds part of these Terms illegal, the rest will continue in force. Each of the sections of these terms operates separately. If any court or relevant authority decides that any of them are unlawful, the remaining sections will remain in full force and effect.

We may transfer the benefit of the agreement with you under these Terms to any other company in the same group of companies. This will not affect your rights. You may not transfer your cashback or your rights to any third parties under these Terms without our agreement in writing.
