The Department of War is getting rid of the NIST RMF process and enforcing the new framework called the Cybersecurity Risk Management Construct (CSRMC). It has five phases: The Five-Phase Lifecycle The new construct organizes cybersecurity into five phases aligned to system development and operations: 1. Design Phase – Security is embedded at the outset, ensuring resilience is built into system architecture. 2. Build Phase – Secure designs are implemented as systems achieve Initial Operating Capability (IOC). 3. Test Phase – Comprehensive validation and stress testing are performed prior to Full Operating Capability (FOC). 4. Onboard Phase – Automated continuous monitoring is activated at deployment to sustain system visibility. 5. Executive Summary • Strategic Framework: ISO 27001 implementation is structured around the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle, ensuring the ISMS is continually managed, audited, and improved. • The Planning Foundation: The project begins by securing top management commitment and strictly defining the scope and context of the ISMS (Clause 4). Security Should Start from the Inside Out, Not Just the Perimeter For years, cybersecurity strategies focused heavily on defending the perimeter, firewalls, gateways, and edge security. While these remain critical, the reality is that threats today don’t respect borders. 1- Insider threats, whether intentional or accidental, can bypass perimeter defenses entirely. 2- Compromised accounts turn legitimate access into a weapon. 3- Cloud adoption has blurred the traditional network edge. That’s why modern security needs to be built from the inside out: A- Start by protecting identities and enforcing strong authentication. B- Secure critical data wherever it lives, with encryption and classification. C- Deploy detection and response inside the environment, endpoints, servers, and internal traffic. D- Layer in network segmentation to limit lateral movement. When your core is secure, the perimeter becomes an additional layer of defense, not the only one you rely on. Tuesday's reading - SSL/TLS certificates life span. Currently, the lifespan of SSL/TLS certificates is 398 days. However, beginning in 2026, this will be reduced to 200 days. In 2027, it will be further shortened to 100 days, and by 2029, the lifespan will be cut down to 47 days for SSL/TLS certificates and 10 days for DCVs. This reduction in the lifespan of SSL/TLS certificates to 47 days by 2029 aims to encourage organizations to implement automated solutions.
