Karsten Hiemstra shared thisWill be buying this. Congratulations Rob!Karsten Hiemstra shared thisI got my shipment of the new book today! So happy to actually be holding the physical object :-) The first person to get a copy was, of course, my dad, whom I dedicated the book to. If you ever wanted to understand the magic and mystery behind ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and others - you'll find this book answers pretty much everything you ever wanted to know about LLMs! Looking forward to hearing your comments on the book!

Karsten Hiemstra reposted thisKarsten Hiemstra reposted thisDisaster readiness in Canada remains fragmented — shaped by overlapping jurisdictions, uneven capabilities, and limited coordination across sectors. KPMG’s early release of our new report, From Fragmentation to Framework: A Pan-Canadian Disaster Readiness Model, outlines a practical path toward a more cohesive Pan-Canadian approach — one that strengthens governance, builds interoperable capabilities, and enables faster, more coordinated action when it matters most. This is an important step in rethinking how Canada prepares for and manages complex emergencies. 🔗 Read the report: https://lnkd.in/gkhjB7nv How do you see collaboration evolving across governments and sectors to make this vision a reality? #emergencymanagement, #disasterresilience, Jean-Philippe Tizi, Ing., MBAFrom Fragmentation to Framework: A Pan-Canadian Disaster Readiness ModelFrom Fragmentation to Framework: A Pan-Canadian Disaster Readiness Model

Karsten Hiemstra liked thisKarsten Hiemstra liked thisAfter more than 45 years in the workforce—and over 30 years serving the Province of British Columbia and consulting with public sector organizations—I have decided that June 30, 2026, will mark my retirement and the beginning of a new chapter. As I reflect on my career, I am filled with gratitude. What began as a part-time job at McDonald's when I was 15 years old turned into a lifelong journey filled with opportunities, challenges, friendships, and experiences that have shaped both my professional and personal life. It was at McDonald's where I met my wife, Barb, and where some of my longest-standing friendships began. Looking back, it's remarkable how much of life's journey can be influenced by a first job. Over the years, I had the privilege of working with exceptional people throughout the B.C. Government across numerous ministries and organizations. Together, we tackled complex challenges, improved services, modernized business processes, and delivered projects that supported British Columbians across the province. Later, through N-Vision Consulting Inc., I had the opportunity to continue serving government clients, helping organizations navigate change, deliver transformational initiatives, and achieve meaningful outcomes. Whether working as a project manager, consultant, product owner, scrum master, business analyst, or mentor, I was fortunate to work alongside talented professionals who continually inspired me to learn and grow. No career is built alone. I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the many colleagues, executives, team members, clients, vendors, and partners who trusted me, challenged me, supported me, and made the journey both rewarding and enjoyable. Any success I have achieved has been the result of working with incredible people. Most importantly, I want to thank my wife, Barb, for her unwavering support, encouragement, patience, and love throughout this journey. For more than 41 years, she has been my greatest supporter, trusted advisor, and best friend. I simply could not have accomplished what I have without her. I also want to thank our children and their partners—Cody and Angela, Tara and Josh, and Jordan and Cory—for their love and encouragement throughout the years. As retirement begins, I look forward to spending more time with Barb, our children, and our grandchildren—Emmy, Addy, Evi, and Maddox. I am excited to travel, devote more time to R.O.A.M. and helping reunite lost dogs with their families through searching and trapping efforts, pursue a few projects that have been patiently waiting on the sidelines, and perhaps even enjoy the occasional day with absolutely nothing on the calendar. To everyone who has been part of this journey, thank you for the opportunities, the friendships, the lessons, and the memories. While my professional career may be coming to a close, I am excited for what comes next. Here's to the next chapter.

Karsten Hiemstra liked thisKarsten Hiemstra liked thisExcited and grateful to share that I successfully cleared the ServiceNow Certified Master Architect (CMA) program last week! 🎉 Over the past 6 months, this program has been one of the most intensive and rewarding learning experiences of my career. From executive storytelling and strategic advisory to architecture alignment and value realization, the journey constantly challenged me to think beyond technology and grow as a trusted advisor. The program was rigorous, fast-paced, and pushed all of us outside our comfort zones, but that is exactly what made it so valuable. A big thank you to the incredible instructors Amanda Johnson and Julian Mills for their guidance, coaching, and honest feedback throughout the program. I’m also very thankful to my amazing CMA team members Nick Derbawka, Paul Tajiri, Caroline Spencer, and William Scott - for all the collaboration, support, feedback, and encouragement along the way. Special thanks to my mentor Kailey Oppenheim for the mentorship and continuous guidance throughout this journey. I also want to recognize Madan Raja and Matt Espley, who generously shared their experience, insights, and advice to help me prepare for the exam. Grateful as well to Jeff Butler, Chris Chute, and Marc England for their leadership and encouragement throughout the journey. Proud to continue this journey with the talented team at Ondaro Canada and looking forward to applying these learnings to help drive even greater value for our customers. #ServiceNow #CMA #Leadership #TrustedAdvisor #ProfessionalGrowth #Ondaro

Karsten Hiemstra liked thisKarsten Hiemstra liked thisKPMG leaders took the stage yesterday at ServiceNow Knowledge 2026, sharing how organizations are turning AI into measurable business outcomes. Kevin Baxter showcased how 22 AI use cases were brought into production in just 85 working days—delivering over 29,000 hours saved and reshaping service operations. Aaron Purcell and Prasanna Govindankutty focused on how governance is evolving alongside AI, moving from a static database to integrated, real-time workflows—and reinforcing the need to both secure AI agent assets and actively own how they are deployed and managed. These conversations carried beyond the stage, with strong engagement across the event as clients and teams connected on what it takes to move forward with AI confidently. Take a look at a few moments from #Know26.
